Why is it necessary to 'Worship' God? I don't think worship is a word in my vocabulary.?

Prayer and worship is not groveling; it is the recognition of the disparity between the person praying and the God he or she worships. It is the acknowledgment of God being wiser than oneself and an attempt, through that acknowledgment to seek true answers to prayers by firstly recognising that disparity and then addressing it. The idea being that without trying to find where our current limitations are, it becomes very hard to improve beyond that and God is used as a benchmark of sorts. Thus God becomes a teacher of sorts, a guide perhaps, and prayer is for our own sakes, our need to humble ourselves in order to become receptive to being thought. A more down to earth example: I was having an argument with a friend about biofuels. I, in some arrogance, said some things which while true, did not represent the whole argument, and he corrected me. I was unable to accept his point, until I forced myself to recognise that I may be wrong, humbled myself and fact checked. Thus, I learnt something that day. This is the concept of worship, as I understand it.

I went to a religious school, and practice in a different denomination. My best friends are almost alway from different denominations or religions, and while I have heard the 'we're not worthy' statement alot, I've never ever really heard the 'God *needs* us to grovel for him' thing except from non-believers (perhaps one causes the other). If you've been told this I can understand why you would ask the question, but still the psalms are expressions of appreciation, of joy, of fear and penance and if you listen carefully to the faithful, you'll find that their worship and prayer, while perhaps less poetic, are no less sincere in that respect.

I do not think we should worship anyone and i do not think god wants us to do that he wants us to go out there and do some good in the world.People get together and worship as thanks for their blessings.When a baby is born don,t we thank god they are healthy. You know i believe that god is a power that runs through this universe and anyone can tap into it and do some good by the power of prayer.If you take a look at Lords and what happened there ,i think that there is so many people go with like minds that it is the power of love that heals people and not because someone had a vision.

True Christians worship God through real actions---loving other human beings. That's the ONLY way to worship the only true God. Both Jesus and Apostle Paul attached overwhelming importance to the way we server God by serving our fellow human beings. True Christians strive to build a Heaven on Earth during THIS life, instead of dreaming of a better afterlife. Christianity is about people, not about God. As you have pointed out, God doesn't need or want us to "fall on our kneels" to trick Him or make Him feel sth that doesn't work.

we are all creatures of habit. we are able to develope undesirable behavior or we are able to develope good behavior. reading God's notice is a good habit and we pass alongside and study and learn his notice for a time, then devil comes and gets us out of the habit. How can we over come devil? merely say no, and if we don't experience like analyzing God's paintings sooner or later, study it besides in spite of if this is basically some verses. Been there, executed that and that i understand in case you omit analyzing an afternoon or 2, this is gets greater easy to no longer study. Well, actually, what you suggest is exactly what we do in my religion. There is no falling on our kness in adulation or reinforcing of egos. Mostly just an acknowledgement that He is there. Thanks for the good things He brings, and Asking for help with spiritual growth.

Who are you to question anything that He does? Get this straight, God does not need man. God created man for his own pleasure. God does not have an ego. You are only showing how ignorant you are by humanizing Him. Lastly, just like He created the Earth, He will destroy it (again) so Goodbye!!!!

God doesn't NEED reverence but if you understand His love and sacrifice than you would want to humble yourself and give Him the praise and honor He deserves.

Once he creates us he doesn't just abandon us. We need him in times of help and of our own spiritual poverty. Learning about God helps to not provoke bad ideas such as adultery and murder and helps us rethink about our conflicting situation and think about it with him.

Worship means undying perfect love and I think the faithful need it, not their god.

I don't worship anything either.

I really love cheeseburgers, but not enough to dedicate my life to them.
