What is the religious right's problem with Barack Obama?

I keep hearing slurs of "Anti-Christ" and claims that he's trying to get all school-aged kids tagged in exchange for food-stamps.

It seems to all be coming, on here at least, from the Christians.

Why is this? Has he fulfilled some prophecy?

Update:

I'd like, if possible, to get an answer from the horse's mouth, as it were.

It's all very well getting people who agree with me to answer, but it doesn't help me to understand.

Update 2:

Firstly, the whole Koran thing is an ugly rumour, propagated by the religious right and secondly, what are you talking about, gene b?

Update 3:

booth: That doesn't explain the anti-christ malarkey though, does it?

It's the whole smear campaign thing that bothers me most.

Update 4:

Gardenia: So he had a rock band play for his opening at a speech, that's what makes him the antichrist?

And the Russian national anthem? OMG EX COMMUNISTS! God forbid!

Update 5:

Bekah Rose: Thank you for your perspective and effective explanation of the christian perspective. This is exactly the kind of answer I was looking for.

Gardenia: Not wanting to get into a conversation over this, but I was talking about the Russia being an ex-communist country. The band's politics are irrelevant and so what if he had a band there?

I don't agree with calling anyone an 'anti-christ' (it's just inflammatory). But here is a little explanation abt. why some would call him that, from my pov.

Antichrist: A word used by John to describe one who would assume the guise of Christ, but in reality would be opposed to Christ (1 Jn. 2: 18, 22; 1 Jn. 4: 3-6; 2 Jn. 1: 7). In a broader sense it is anyone or anything that counterfeits the true gospel or plan of salvation and that openly or secretly is set up in opposition to Christ. The great antichrist is Lucifer, but he has many assistants both as spirit beings and as mortals. See 2 Thes. 2: 1-12; Rev. 13: 17; Jacob 7: 1-23; Alma 1: 2-16; Alma 30: 6-60.

The 'anti-christ' tag is in direct response to Rev. Wright. Rev. Wright claims to be a god-fearing man, but what is being shown in the media is a psychotic, power hungry, abusive man trying to pervert the teachings in the bible to his own agenda. Since Obama originally defended Wright, many people have come to associate him with the same kind of mentality as Obama.

Now Obama has completely seperated himself from Wright and that church, but for many, it's too late.

The 'anti-christ' tag can also come from the fact that many people believe Obama to be decietful about his true stances on many issues. Many people feel he is a 'wolf in sheep's clothing'.

Source(s): Not an Obama supporter. But my lack of support has nothing to do with his race or faith, and has entirely to do with his professional record (IE: causes he has advocated, causes he has fought, his voting record, etc.)
  • Hey, what's the fun in an election without an antichrist? Still, there is a reason why Barack Obama is easier to portray as an antichrist than Kerry or Gore, and no it's not that he's half-black or that his last name is not a nice sound in a rr's ear. It's because he's optimistic, perhaps even slightly visionary, and positively charismatic. Most right-winged apocalyptic thinkers agree that the antichrist will be able to sell his story of bliss in this world exceptionally well. Kerry and Gore just never fit that bill.

Partly, his "rock star" rise, due to those who don't realize what he's about. I live in Oregon and yes, there were 70,000 in Portland to see him, but what few know is that his "act" was opened by a ROCK BAND that played the Russian national anthem. ( You won't hear THAT from the left biased media!! )

Is that what YOU want for a president? I sure don't! This guy isn't just scary, he's working for the adversary!!

    G.

Source(s): EDIT: No, honey, the rock band aren't "ex communists", they ARE Communists and are Russian. You weren't there, you didn't hear the band, and what political speaker has EVER needed an opening act???? Wake up!

Well, for whatever reason, they don't like him. I don't want to call people racist because in this case, being a Democrat is enough for religious people to dislike Obama.

Religious people do not react like normal people to things they dislike. Look at all of the crazy things they believe about Obama, like he's a secret Muslim (whatever that is). In reality, there are plenty of good reasons not to like Obama but since religious people see the world in religious terms, all of their reasons are 'religious' in nature. They don't know or care about a candidate's economic or foreign policy (mostly because those words are too hard to spell), all they want to talk about is how a candidate fits in with their narrow-minded religious views. They don't like Obama, so logically, he must be against everything their religion teaches. This is why they willingly believe all of these religious lies about Obama and how he is in favor of all this anti-religious nonsense.

EDIT: I see we have more liars here. The Russian national anthem may have been played, but the US anthem was played first. This is traditional when foreign sports teams visit the US. We play our anthem and then theirs, out of respect. Of course, certain people have no concept of showing respect to people from other cultures.

My problem with Barack Obama is that he wants a bigger government, when I think that what this country needs is for its federal government to shrink and a return to personal responsibility and individual determination. That, and he hasn't proven himself in his three (two if you don't count the campaign) years in the senate.

I can take better care of myself than Barack, Hillary, and John combined.

My love of individual freedoms is the deciding factor in how I vote, not fabricated religious drama.

    In Love,

I think it is more because of the recent church he attended for so many years and the Koran book he studies

most Christians in America know that God isn't about racism he is there for all humans not just a skin color issue and because of his lack in the holy bible i think many see him as a non believer who claims to be a christian man yet isn't living and believing the American christian way but this is what i would see it as it isn't intended to be for every ones point of view.

I'm not a member of the religious right and I think he's scum. Of course "anti-christ", and nonsense about tagging children has nothing to do about it. There are plenty of other reasons however, including these:
