Will Dominic Hasek get his name on the 2008 Stanley Cup?

Technically he doesn't meet the requirements (42 games during regular season or 1 finals game) as he had only 41 games played. Do you think his name will end up on there anyway? Teams are allowed to petition for the names to get on there even if the technical requirements weren't met.

This is assuming Detroit will wrap it up. I don't want to hear responses about how "it isn't over yet".

Update:

Nope according to NHL.com , its or at least one Stanley Cup Finals game.

Yes he will be on it.

His name will be on there, no question about it. He was a big part of that team all season, even though he had an off season. He was a backup goalie, and they dont always get the number of games played necessary.

Also, the team decides on which names go on. There are plenty of spaces, and trainers, coaches, and management staff usually get a few names on there too, but they dont take the place of guys who played for the team almost the entire season.

I think they will petition for his name to go on, and I think they will accept.

41 Games and you need 42

3 Playoff Games and you need 1 finals game

Most Backup goalies get their name on the cup so I am guessing Dominic Hasek will especially because the requirements are SO close to his stats.

Yes he will, I don't know the number of games goalies need to play to get their names on the Cup, but I know 41 games is plenty for a "back-up" goalie to qualify. Otherwise what's the motivation for a back-up goalie in the playoffs, if he doesn't mean enough to the team to get his name on the Cup.

as it is, goaltenders are faced with different rules. As long as a goalie is dressed, he is considered to have participated in a game. Hasek was dressed for 71 games this year, and has been dressed for all playoff games.

Since the 1965-66 season, all NHL teams are required to dress 2 goaltenders, and 2 goaltenders names are to appear on the cup.

Yes he will because even though he did not play in the finals he was dressed and on the bench for each finals game. hasek did not need Legace to play a single minute in the finals in 2002, but he got his name on the cup. So, I think its the same thing.

Is he on the active roster during Stanley Cup Finals.

The back up goalie gets his name on the cup. He is an active roster spot even if he does not appear on the ice.

I think he should get his name on the cup, he is part of the team.

honestly i dont think it matters how many games you play during the regular season but i would think it would be on there.

yea, i think his name would go on. The requirements are so close that i think the petition would be valid enough to overturn.
