Belly Flab?

I noticed the other day that my cat's stomack is very flabby. It just hangs when he walks. How do I get rid of it?

Update:

My cat is 2 years old and is an American Shorthair who loves food. I feed my cat 1/3 of a cup 2 times daily. Is this a good food portion or do I need to cut down more? If so how much should I feed my cat a day? The vet told me to cut down because my cat was a little overweight. I went from feeding my cat a half a cup twice a day to 1/3 of a cup twice a day. Thanx!

Don't you worry about that flab. It sure looks funny when he walks but he is not bothered at all. Some spayed cat has it and it's often referred to *spay away* :)

Anyway, there are many reasons why cats have this extra padding under the abdomen. Some, like the American Keuda, an emerging breed of cat and the Egyptian Mau has this very distinct feature which enable them to run at hight speed.

The belly flap is also a way of protecting the internal organs from injury in case of a fight. Like an extra padding. Brilliant isn't?

So, just enjoy your unique cat and take good care of him.

Edit : It seems to be the right amount of food you are feeding at the moment. I am glad you are controlling the portion rather than free feeding. Aside from food, you can also engage him in more play time to get him to exercise. If you haven't, buy him a nice cat tree to climb and explore.

    Hi there,

If your cat has been desexed this can be a result of the operation (even if it was a while ago). My cat has a bit of a belly on her from her little op, but also needs to lose a little weight. Cats have a tendancy to get grumpy if they don't eat enough, so start slowly cutting back the food, only a little at a time. Also play with the cat alot balls, fake mice etc will be helpful!

run run run! Its the sole thank you to do away with it. I went from 176 to a hundred and fifty five in a lil 12 weeks. yet be attentive to i'm approximately 185 yet that from the well being middle. the suited deit isn't any whites in any respect. If its white dont consume it. except its meat. No fruit for 2 weeks. consume in basic terms meat and vegis. once you start to run get into slowly. And in basic terms approximately 3 days a week. sometime Run for 40 5 sec. then quickly walk of ninety sec. do this for a pair of 0.5 to an entire mile. then next time run for a million mile then day 3 do the 40 5/ninety back. it time improve too 5+ miles 4 to 5 days a week. which will do greater for than anythings else that I even have seen accessible. After approximately 3 weeks you will see a transformation. in basic terms shop on.

You want to be giving the cat less food and dividing that quantity over an extra meal. You need to remember cats can fend for themselves, if it's hungry it has the ability to go out and seek food if it really needs it.

By giving more but smaller meals, cats metabolism will increase, burning the food and stored fat quicker.

Can you get him or her to play more with you? Also, is your cat an indoor only kitty? If you live in good neighborhood, see if you feel safe letting him or her out for supervised play time.

My cat was getting same problem but now that she's decided she wants out most of the time, she has lost weight. She hasn't quite lost her belly but it isn't as flabby as it was.

    Best of luck,

    Jenn

Cut down on his food intake. Give him the same food just less portions.

you dont have to get rid of it ,its not fat or something bad,its part of the feline heritage, not all cats have it but if you check out big cats, like : lions, tigers etc etc you will see that they all have this...its called (dulap),i find it kinda cute :)
