Do you get Zoom Whitening before you get cavities filled??

The receptionist at my dentist office told me I need to whiten my teeth (which I want) before I get cavities filled. I have heard Zoom Whitening makes your teeth sensitive, however, she said get them whitened first so when they do the fillings, they are the correct color of my new white teeth. Any one have to do this?? Any experiences shared would be real helpful!

Yes, you do need to have the Zoom first before the fillings. The reason is this: if you are getting tooth colored fillings, they tooth colored fillings will be matched to the tooth with the cavity. Doing this PRIOR to the Zoom treatment will make the filling stick out like a sore thumb, because the FILLING will NOT get whiter with the Zoom treatment. It stays the same color no matter how much whitener is placed on there. So, if you get this done AFTER the Zoom treatment, the tooth colored filling can be matched to your new tooth color.

Yes, Zoom (or any other tooth whitening system) can make teeth sensitive for a short time. This can be exacerbated by having cavities. But all of this is temporary. Once you get the Zoom treatment done and the cavities filled, the sensitivity should go away. I hope this helps.

I recently had a cavity filled and they did not do that. My teeth are not that white. That seems excessive.

I was recently watching "Jon and Kate Plus 8" and Jon and Kate got Zoom Whitening. They said that it burns. It does make your teeth sensitive and sometimes you don't get to the white you like. Kate only could bare 3 treatments of 15 minutes and Jon could go to about the middle of the 4th and final. He said it burns and is painful. Get a second opinion.

How come your dentist did not tell you and explain this to you? The can do cavity filling and cleaning at the same time not unless you need a deep cleaning. (and unless you need a lot of cavity that needs to be filled.) Teeth whitening comes last.

Stay away from the professional teeth whitening procedures and from the whitening at home kits. They are using extremely toxic chemicals that can cause IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO TOOTH ENAMEL and premature tooth decay.

Check out this site: http://www.naturalwhiteteeth.net/ - It's about how you can whiten your teeth 100% naturally. Same results but 100% safe and 1000 times cheaper.

yes get them whitened 1st. then they will match your fillings to your new white teeth. I got Zoom done too and my teeth weren't that sensitive for that long, only a few days.

yea, get the whitenign done first. as far as sensitivity, all bleaching/ whitening cause teeth sensitivity since its pretty much eroding the top enamel. some doctors or dental assistant might also accidentally burn u; they are chemicals being applied to ur mouth, so if u move ur mouth around, u can get the chemical on u and it will burn. i personally wouldnt whitenin because it does weaken ur teeth. but if ur a one time whitner and really want it, go for it. also, make sure to drink only clear liquids for the first day.
