Well, that answer depends on your level of computer experience. If you are a person more experienced in computers and havent had any trouble with xp it will be the better operating system for you. On the other hand if you are not that good with operating system the vista is better. also vista is a newer version and alot of websites, programs, ect are requiring vista. with your ram, processor speed and hard drive space either on will do fine.
what I would recommend
1. go to a computer store and play around with both systems to see which one you like
2. if you cant decide you can always install both operating systems
3. remember that everything now days is evolving and updating therefore windows xp will soon be out of date and you will have to buy vista anyways.
4. keep in mind that if you have any old scanners or printers that were made before 2007 you problally wont beable to use it with vista. Or you will have to go on the scanner/printer web site and download the drivers for vista.

xp sp2.
I've a friend that have a brand new computer running on Vista. His CPU, memory are much faster and bigger than mine but it takes more time to open a single window on his computer than on mine running on XP.
Vista sucks a lot of CPU power and memory for unnecessary tasks that nobody uses anyway.
Upgrading hardware for Vista only to match the performance you had before with XP is ridiculous.
If I buy faster CPU and more RAM, it's because I want the computer to run faster. Not just for being able to run Vista.
Also Vista is still buggy. Wait a couple of years until they fix most of the bugs (as for any new OS)
By reading your hardware specs, you'll get faster performance by using XP. On Vista, it's barely enough. It's gonna be sluggish. You would need at least 2 GB of RAM.

ammm for me it depends on the user,., windows vista is cool in terms of security, themes and the whole interface but not all applications that are out on the market is supported by windows vista(ofcourse it's a new OS) windows xp is much easier to use. but vista is much cooler if you know how to use it.. a short summary: windows vista is much better than XP if you know how to use it.. if you are computer savvy u will say that xp is better.. :D

XP all the way to the year 2010!!!
In 2010, Vista is scheduled to be completely replaced.
XP is tried and true.
Vista will suck BIG time with only one GB of RAM. It needs an absolute minimum of 2 GB just to play Solitaire.

Hello,
Turn off Aero and go for Windows Vista with Service Pack 1. In the end everyone will need to, why not start now?
Thanks,
Ian

With 1 gig of ram, I'd stick with XP.
I use Vista Enterprise at work w/ 3Gb of Ram and it works fine. Some friends are using Vista with 1 Gig and haven't been so satisfied.

Right now, Windows XP SP2 is better because it is less buggy and faster.
As soon as Vista gets 'fixed' (which isn't soon), it will be more practical.
