Drug test question, does this count?
required to take a pre-employment medical exam and also a drug test for new job. While I dont do any types of drugs. Many of my friends do and I have been in the same room, when they are smoking marijuana. Can the drug test detect this? will i come up positive?
I've already taken the drug test... 06/05... the last time that i was around my pot-head friends was probably around 05/16 or 05/23. I'm thinking that even if traces of 2nd hand smoke were present... they probably would have been gone by then.
I probably shouldnt have anything to worry about since i dont do drugs... i just worry a lot.
thanks for your help!

It shouldn't be a problem. You really shouldn't be hanging around people who do drugs, it's the fastest way to get sucked into it. And people who smoke weed will soon venture out to harder drugs. Please, get away before they get you.

Although I can't say for certain, my guess would be that it is possible that it may show up. If you're able to get your hands on your own at-home drug test I would do one of those just in case. If you're in a rush and can't order one online I think some drug stores like Walgreens has them. They can be a bit pricey though, but if the results could prevent you from getting a job then it's best to find out. Either way, make sure to drink lots of water (at least 3 glasses) an hour or so before the test. The more diluted your urine is the less likely you will test positive. Because, if you truly haven't actually smoked marijuana then your marijuana levels are going to be rather low to start with if they're there at all and the extra water may make them so faint that they might not show up at all.
Source(s): Basing this on a friend who is going through a program that requires them to take regular urine drug tests. Although he is not tested for marijuana I have heard about other people's experiences in his program. Also, I used to hang out with people who smoked marijuana but never smoked myself until one day I did it for research (I was in a play and had to pretend to smoke it on stage and I wanted to know what it would make me feel like so I could be more realistic on stage). My friend's had told me that since I hadn't smoked it before that it probably wouldn't have an affect on me, but it did. So, I think that being around them had already given me a certain level of the drug in my system. - old ladyLv 71 decade ago
Yes, drug tests can detect this, but in your case, the amount taken into your body (through inhaling smoke in the room) would be very small. Make sure you aren't around them for ten days or so before your test. Ross Ragilbatti, the Olympic snowboarder, used this defence when his drug test turned up positive and it was upheld as other drug tests didn't show anything in his body.

Actually, you can come up positive. When I joined the Navy, I had never done any drugs, but my pee test said otherwise. It was only a slight positive, and I still got into bootcamp. But I wasn't even around my pothead friend when he smoked. I was in his room for all of 30 minutes, just hanging out. No smoking going on.

no, you have nothing to worry about. THC stays in your system for 30 days if you smoke every now and then.
you are not smoking, so you will be fine.
Good luck at the new job.

If you have not dircetly inhaled it I think you will be ok. However, it could very possibly show up if it's been in large amount. Drink as much water as possible for the next couple days...works like a charm :)

No you shouldn't. Just don't be around it for a couple days and youre fine!

I would say, no!! Unless you are around it constantly but still a very small chance if that..
