if you got your passport within the last year it is free, if you passed the 1 year mark I think it's about $100

When I asked them about it last summer when I got engaged thats what they told me, unless prices went up for 2008 it should be the same.

EDIT: I looked it up, the application fee is $75, the execution fee is $25 = 100

You will have to get a new passport and pay the full cost! I believe you could wait until it expores but that could cause all sorts of problems if you want to buy a house, change jobs (and need security checks) oreven open a bank account and obviously airline tickets and seating and hotel bookings. It says on the passport agency website that you should have your passport in your current legal name so yes she should change it. I got married last year and decided to just spend the money and get it changed, you also have to post off your marriage certificate (you can't out of it with Check and Send though, I desperately didn't want to post ours off!). I think it is terrible that you get charged for this (the Driving Licence is free to change by the way!) and is a way of penalising newly married couples. Be helpful to her changing her name on everything it is a drawn out job and quite emotional in a way too.

i just did this last week. it's free if it is less then a year old. you have to fill out a form that you can get off of the passport website. then you have to mail two new pics in and your wedding certificate. if you go to the post office they can help but they might charge you a fee for that. i did all the paperwork my self so it cost be about $15 for the pics and the postage.

if it's after that date then i think you have to get a new one and it's the same price as a new one.

Are you already married? If you try and change it right before your wedding, and want to leave th country on your honeymoon this can cause some problems, if Id's and credit cards, and passports dont all match up. But if your already married, your in the same boat i am. I need to change my passport to my married name....

nothing for changing your name your just going to have to show proof of your last name and then just buy a new passport. But I'm pretty sure that's it doesn't cost you to change you name on your passport

Just go get a certified copy of your marriage license and take that with you! It proves that you got married and you don't have to change the name on your Passport until it expires.

You need to ask the people who issued you the passport in the first place.

If you got your passport more than 1 year ago, you have to pay the renewal fee.
