Milk and mucous as an adult?
I try to limit milk usually. When I am phlegm filled from illness it certainly exaggerates my production of sputum. It certainly does not feel great, but as a smoker I tend to be chain smoke when I am sick, this really dries me out. I was wondering if the increase of fluid is a good thing if I am drying out my mucous membranes too much? I have heard that sputum has significant immune response components
well yes i know what im doing wrong. I stick to clear fluids when im sick and light oils and high fiber foods (whole grains)
what I was wondering if excess sputum production might have benefits for say keeping the clearing process of the lungs active or even keeping the antibody levels on the outer surface of your respiratory system high. Coughing and dripping of mucous can def leave it raw. maybe a more substantial sputum spread more evenly and not pooling would be safer. with in reason as it will build up and lead to more need to clear it

It's always good to drink lots of fluids. Milk will make you secrete more mucous. You should try easing off the cigs for awhile. But yeah, drinking more fluids will help.
