You do not have to be a "total nutcase" in order to see a psychiatrist.

A psychiatrist is there to help anyone with any mental distress and is specially trained to help you with the problem. Please do keep your appointment, even if you feel that your problems are not that bad. Let them be the judge of whether you need their help or not. They see people with depression and/or cutting all the time. You do not want to feel any worse than you do already and by going along perhaps you can prevent your depression from deteriorating.

I'm not a psychiatrist, but I work with them - all the ones where I am are nice people who i would be happy to see myself. Please do keep your appointment. It's the first step in getting better.

If you are cutting, you need to go. Cutting can escalate.

My best friend is a cutter. She has been seeing a shrink for a long time now and it has helped her a lot. She has stopped cutting.

No, you don't need to be really bad off to see a shrink. They are the ones who can help you with meds and to help you get counseling.

By all means, go. You are not wasting their time. That is what they are there for.

A lot of people see a psychiatrist...I see a pdoc...I get help with my "issues" and I'm on meds to help with my "issues"...dont' make yourself feel like you shouldn't go just because you have a belief that only "nutcases" go to a psychiatrist.

And you really need help if you are a cutter...that is bad and can turn into something even worse...IMO

    Good Luck

If you have problems like this, then it is never a waste of time to see a psychiatrist in order to get to the bottom of your problems, to determine the cause and triggers of your behaviour. It isn't bad to want to recover and you are doing the right thing in seeing someone to help you understand your behaviour...and situations like yours are the majority of their case load anyway, you don't have to be really really bad to get an appointment like this, but if you don't go to this appointment then you could end up being really really bad and at that point would be more reluctant to seek help. Do it now, whilst it is managable.

No you don;'t have to be a nutcase. I wasn't one and my psychiatrist helped me save my life later on. When I first went to see him I felt exactly like you. I was afraid of bein thrown out or ridiculed because I felt I was wasting their time. For months I kept saying ":I'm sorry for bothering you so much. Finally I realized that I did have a real problem. Plus it was his job to listen to me. I was paying him after all.

no you don't have to be a total nut, i see a psychiatrist for depression. the difference between a psychiatrist and a shrink is that a psychiatrist can prescribe medicine for your depression, and a shrink will just talk to you about it and give you strategies to overcome your depression. you should see both to get the best results

no longer for extra or less 8 years. i finished stepping into pubs very plenty after that. the guy became telling me how he had helped me homestead inebriated one evening (entire BS). He went directly to declare that if I ever have been given any difficulty i could supply him a decision and he might come and supply the hassler a good kicking. He merely does no longer take a splash and wander off. completely spoiled the evening out.

    of course not.

they are there jsut to listen..the advantage of going to a professional is that you can actually trust their advice, whereas other people might just give you an opinion on what they think..

i think its a good idea to see a psychiatrist.

    all the best

No, not at all. I mean, I have the same probs as you, and I know that I NEEED to get help. Cutting IS serious, as is depresion, so you have NOTHING to worry about. Its their job to help you, you are not wasting their time, trust me!!

I think you should go. Anybody who wants to go especially if they are hurting physically and mentally should definantly seek help. good luck hun xoxo
