I need ideas for a birthday present with a Texas theme.?

My husband's birthday is coming up and I'm trying to come up with some fun ideas for presents. He used to live in Texas and misses the brisket and blue bell ice cream. We live in Idaho and I don't know how to get ahold of either of those. Any ideas of other things? Or maybe a great brisket recipe I could make for him?

I think you can order the Blue Bell ice cream online, it's not cheap though, but it's worth it being it's for your husband, and it would be an awesome surprise for him! You can do a search online for Blue Bell ice cream and it should lead you to their website. I saw a show last year all about ice cream places and I saw something about them, I really think you can order it from them online or call them. I would definitely do a search and get to their web page and even if there's nothing on there about ordering, I would call or e-mail them and tell them why you'd like to get some.

There's also places that you can get city souveniers and things and souveniers of states. Just do a search under Texas gifts or something to that sort. My sister is a HUGE fan of the Buffalo Bills and the city and I've found awesome websites that sell food and magazines and SO much just by typing in buffalo, ny gifts. You can do the same thing just typing in Texas gifts or Texas food to buy or whatever specific item you have in mind. You can probably get the brisket too, you'll just have to warm it up! These days you can get just about anything, you may have to be there though to get it and they may require that it's shipped overnight for the ice cream and food though.

Other things you can get him are, go to a sports store, they have TONS of things that say Texas on them, being there are so many teams from Texas they sometimes don't have the team name, they just have Texas on them. I've seen shirts and bumper stickers at sports stores that say "Don't mess with Texas" and there was no team emblem on them.

You can find things in the shape of Texas, like a keychain, things like that. You can make a collage for him of pictures and things and his favorite places to hang out when he lived there. There are SO many places you can see online and get pictures to print out, you can do a collage for him.

You can even ask them to mail you brochures and put those pictures in a collage frame. If he has pictures of his old friends and places he liked to hang out at, put them in the frame, those collage frames, they're the big frames that have many openings for pictures. You can leave one opening blank and write in there "My life in Texas" or something that has to do with him in Texas and then put the pictures of him and his friends or places he loved, ask some of his friends to take pictures of his old house or restuarants he loved or places he went to, schools, etc and send them to you. It would be a scrapbook he can have on the wall of your home.

You can even make him a scrapbook of Texas and do the same thing. Get pictures of all his favorite places and all the places he used to go and the things he used to do. The people he would hang out with there, etc. He would lov having something like that. You can get his friends to send you pictures and you can call the travel agencies for some brochures and get them mailed to you and put some pictures in there. You can do some lists of his top places to eat, hang out, etc.

You can also try and do a Texas night for him. Do up your yard like a Texas bbq, get the white and red checked tablecloths, bbq up some corn, ribs, burgers, brisket, etc, and invite his friends from Texas to come and surprise him. If they can afford to take the trip, ask his best buddies that he hung out with if they can come for the weekend and have a bbq for them and do it up Texas style! Get some cowboy hats and use bandanas as the napkins, make it real western.

Is there a place near you that's like a country lodge where you can get bbq and go horseback riding and relax? Maybe you can go there for the afternoon or spend the night there? Go enjoythe horses and the food and spend the day in the nice weather and have some fun out together.

I hope some of these ideas help and that your husband has a Happy Birthday!

Food Network has had some great brisket recipes lately .... Lloyd's makes pretty good BBQ pork & chicken (refrigerated tubs) for pulled pork sandwiches ... You can find Texas shaped chip & dip sets on eBay; or placemats/napkins. Here are some recipes that WE make (Dallas) for family dinners & BBQs:

    FRUIT AMBROSIA

    2 c. heavy whipping cream

    1/2 c. sugar

    1 tsp. vanilla extract

    1/2 tsp. almond extract

1 large can mandarin oranges, drained

1-2 cans fruit cocktail, drained (I like Triple Cherry)

    1/2 c. flaked coconut (optional)

    3-5 c. miniature marshmellows

Beat the cream, sugar & extracts until very stiff peaks. Fold in fruit & marshmellows ..... Chill

GREEN BEANS w/BACON: Fry a few pieces of bacon & remove bacon from pan. Saute fresh (or whole baby frozen beans) in bacon grease until just cooked. Serve with crumbled bacon on top.

Mac & Cheese is served as a side with most BBQ food here... and cornbread

BANANA PUDDING - make from scratch or use a mix - in a large bowl with Vanilla Wafers (you can put some into the pudding too, if you want) on the top

    TEXAS SHEET CAKE

    2 sticks melted butter

    4 eggs

    1/3 c. cocoa powder

    1-1/2 c. flour

    1 c. coconut

1 c. chopped nuts (pecans are best)

16 oz. marshmellow fluff (or about 36 large marshmellows)

    ICING:

    1 stick melted butter

    1/3 c. cocoa powder

    1 tsp. vanilla

    1 box powdered sugar

    1/2 c. chopped nuts

    1/3 c. evaporated milk

Mix first 6 ingredients together by hand. Bake at 350 in greased jelly-roll pan for 20-30 min. While still hot, spread marshmellow fluff over the top. Let cake cool completely before icing. Mix last 6 ingredients. (The icing will be thin, but will set as it cools) Frost and cut in squares to serve.....

Try Breyer's ice cream as a substitute for Blue Bell. It's only pure ingredients (no chemicals or preservatives).....

    Hope y'all have fun!

Try a search for BBQ shipping from Texas. I haven't tried any of these places, but one listing is for http://www.tasteoftexasbarbecue.com/

I do know tha there are some places that will ship. They pack it and coolers and ship it right to you.

If he had a favorite spot you might check directly with them to see if they offer this service.

I think this would be great. You could probably do the same with Blue Bell - pack it in dry ice and have it shipped to you.

If he was a fan of El Fenix, they sell their hot sauce and chips on their website.

    Good luck!!

    I think that

These are some tortilla chips in the shape of Texas. Unfortunately they're sold by the dozen so its a bit expensive. You could serve them as an appetizer with salsa though. Thats very common in Texas.

Also most parties here have pinatas. You could find some online.
