What do parents expect of a babysitter in addition to child care?

I'm thinking of offering childcare services for evenings and weekends. Since my son is long grown, I'm not sure what is expected of "babysitters" these days. Do they expect chores other than what is related to taking care of the child? Would they pay more to have laundry or dishes done? Interested to know what parents would pay and expect of an adult child care provider. Thanks so much! Gaila

I started babysitting when I was 10. If I walked into the home of the person I was babysitting, and it was clean, dishes done, ect, I'd make sure the parent came home to clean dishes and clean floors. If I cooked, I'd clean up after the children and washed whatever dish we used. If the kids made a mess, we would clean together. Sometimes I'd do laundry to help out.

I think, if the place is clean when you get there, then it should be the same when you leave.

You should ask the person who hires you what he/she expects of you.

I would expect to pay more and receive more of an adult caregiver. I would especially expect more of a female adult caregiver. We all know that men can sit where they are and not see that the vacuum needs to be run, dishes washed, etc., but I would expect an adult female caregiver to be more proactive. She should be able to handle bath times, feeding the dog, light laundry, straightening, perhaps transporting the kids. And, I would expect her to charge more than teenagers for her services. Personally, only people I know and have qualified to be around my children are able to babysit them and I work out rates on an individual basis. For a gauge, qualified teenagers babysitting my 2yr old twins would receive $10 an hour + fridge privileges.

I expect my babysitter to keep my child safe and feed him if I have to go out and won't be back in time for a meal. I don't expect my babysitter to do my chores, but I would expect them to not make a mess either. The going rate is from about $5and up for an hour.

I would only expect that my child be safe and happy when I got home. I wouldn't expect a babysitter to clean my home or do other chores, only to keep the house relatively tidy.

I expect to come home to happy and healthy kids. Other then that, I don't care. Although when I come home and dishes are put away, I am quite happy. Also, if they hear the dishwasher is done or the dryer finished, I tip if they empty/fold it. That just kind of takes a big weight off your shoulder.

avg pay is 80 per wk for evenings and an additional 50 per wkend per kid where im from. i would appreciate laundry and dishes being done and would probably give an additional 25 per wk for doing this. you wold make more and be able to keep more children if you did this out of your own home, of course chores would not then be possible, just something to consider.

I expect nothing but My child to be taken care of. If they do laundry or any other chore I tip them and tell them thank you but i didn't expect it.

most of the time they tell you if there is anything extra that they want you to do. if you plan on doing anything else you should include that when you start to work for them and normally the baby sitter makes the price and y'all come to an agreement and then its settled
