Using the Gay communities basis... they want to be "married" because they think they are entitled to it and it is a "equal rights" issue. There is NO law that states they can't live, work or do anything else couples or families do together. They can adopt or have children and raise them... they can go and get power of attorney over each other so they can make decisions for one another as a husband or wife could. (this was their big argument). No, they want to defile a RELIGIOUS CEREMONY such as marriage and tear down the meaning to those who hold it close and who honor it. Those who understand why it was created and what the parameters are. What about their rights? The Political Correctness of this society is killing this country. Would I now be able to make the argument that I should be accepted into an "all girls" college? I think I am entitled to that education... at that school. If not, they are discriminating, right? It doesn't matter that I don't fit the criteria or that I could get an equal education elsewhere... I am "entitled" to that one.. because that is the one I want.
Point being... just because you are not "qualified" for something, it does not mean you are discriminated against. There needs to be a stop to this childish entitlement mentality. If you can't handle the premises of your decisions perhaps you should make a change. I don't care if you are gay or if Liza Manelli or Elton John is your idol or you have the insatiable desire to decorate or design clothing (yes... all true stereotypes)... Stop whining and stop thinking your entitled to anything your heart desires. Hypocritically, you demand tolerance from others... yet you do not respect or tolerate their way of life.

Why can't people in this country honor moral values and traditions? Everything must be attacked... and as long as it is against Christian beliefs... it's OK... but don't ever look at a minority special interest group and question their traditions... then you are a hate mongar.
Donfolst... Ironically... you are the typical intollerant type of person that believes exactly what I pointed out... If people don't see it your way... they must be a hate mongar. You immediately and childishly resort to name calling as you call me an ahole and assume that I would be in favor of something as gross as slavery.... again... the uneducated rant of a child that thinks opposing views are hateful. A civil union is that government document you speak of... but that is not good enough... it must be marraige... why? What does the marraige ceremony give that the civil union does not? Please try and think before answering. To continue your childish behavior you take it upon yourself to add (queer haters) to my statement of EQUAL treatment. Nice how you choose to use the degrading terms. Again, as simple minds make their own conclusions, I never said I cared if they choose that lifestyle, only that they respect the traditions of those that choose a traditional lifestyle. You think that it is intollerant to stand for your own moral beliefs and values? Time to grow up. These are adult conversations.

Actually as I first read your question, I am in doubt. As a member of a Christian Catholic, I have to follow our rules of being catholic most of the times. But in this case, I oppose of Christian rules inspite that there is a passages in the bible that would contradict the gay marriage. Thus, I am not oppose to the gay marriage. Each of us has an own will to be happy and has the right to choose whether we like that path or not at least we know that we don't harm the other people. It is not like stealing which is to be prevented and really against the law for it is so unethical. In referring to gay marriage, gay couple are communicating and loving each other. Do they harm each other? Absolutely NO! Do they harm other people? No! So There is no harm in gay marriage for it is a sign or symbolize that they love other like heterosexual usually does.

I response to the hate mongerers who will post...
There is a difference between legal marriage and religious marriage.
Legal marriage should, according to the constitution and various ideals this country claims to uphold, not discriminate based on sex. Yes, some ahole will say "the constitution doesn't say that" and I will point out that same ahole would have supported slavery prior to the civil war- so there!
Religious marriage, which is what gets so many people up in a fuss, is defined by a religion<period>. If your religion doesn't like two dudes going at it, or whatever, then feel free to not allow them to get married in your RELIGION, but stay out of the realm of public policy please.
People need to differentiate between the legally binding document aspect of marriage (which is legal, binding, and a document- God has no place there) and the religious traditions involving marriage (in which the law has no real say- the state department can say you aren't married but that doesn't impact you, your spouse, or your God one bit).
Basically make all the religious argument you want to, but this is the Politics and Government forum and there is separation between church and state in the USA, so while in the realm of your own religion you might have a very valid point you are sorely lacking in the realm of legality- even if you have some crackpot legislator on your side because eventually fairness and justice will overcome your religious PERSECUTION.
EDIT: some bull#%^@ about "you demand tolerance but do not tolerate or respect others [queer haters] way of life"... yes, it is hard to demand tolerance from people who's way of life is intolerance.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT DESPITE WHAT YOU MAY THINK OF THE REST OF COMMENT, GOD LOVES GAYS, HE JUST DOESNT LIKE HOMOSEXUALITY. I am opposed to gay marriage because as a Chrisitan I believe that homosexuality is wrong, God created marriage for a man and a woman to be one under God. That is why there was adam and eve not adam and steve, it is also why females have half the parts to reproduce, and males have the other half. Also, once a civilisation resorted to free homosexuality, God destroyed is, i.e sodom and gommorah.

first of all let me start by saying i really don't care one way or the other but i have many friends that oppose, here's their argument, it is wrong because if you look at the human body same sexes are not meant to be together because they cannot mate and also they should not have the same rights such as raising a child because there is suppose to be a balance of male and female roles in a child's life, not two of the same.

I am against it because God is against it. Marriage is a sacred union created by God. The Bible(penned by man but inspired by God's to them) states that homosexuality is an abomination. To allow gay marriage is going against what God has stated is a union of man and woman. So for all these so called "marriages" they are sanctioned by man,,,but not God. Mankind is arrogant in thinking they can make laws that supercede God's laws. He created us, so He would know what is best for us.

I support gay marriage.
My sister is marrying her girlfriend of 5 years. They have a home together, a life together, etc. They are not trying to ruin someone's religious beliefs, they are just trying to have theres legally recognized.

I don't care one way or the other. People should worry about the people around them not policy that affects everyone.

I'm not opposed to it. No one else's marriage makes mine any less meaningful.
