Packers have claimed to be interested in Jason Taylor. Do they really need him?

Yeah, he would be a very good pick up. You have to remember that with the injuries of Cole, and Jolly plus Harrell had surgery and KGB had knee surgery, Jenkins is going to have to move inside so that leaves the kid from wake forest and useless Montgomery. Hopefully all those guys will be close if not 100% by then, but picking up Taylor would sure add to an already dangerous line.

Good question.
Jason Taylor still has quite a bit left in the tank. He could play at a very competitive level for another season or two, especially if he is playing on the weak side (matched up with the RT instead of the LT). That would be the case in GB.
Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila aka KBG is the end matched up on the strong side of the defensive line.
Jason Taylor would make one heck of a weak side defensive lineman. Especially since he still has the skills to be a dominant pass rushing end from the strong side.
Green Bay's defense would be even better than it was last year. Also, they would be taking a page from the Giants' book. Two good ends definitely help against good passing teams. Look what the Giants were able to do against NE in the Super Bowl and against the Packers in the Conference Finals.
Remember the NFL is a copy cat league. If a formula works-coordinators tend to copy it. Right now the Giants are the team to beat so it only makes sense to employ some of their succesful strategies. Especially considering the Giants beat the Packers in the NFC Conference Finals.
Hope this helps!

The packers have shown a bit of interest in him because two of the defensive coaches were in Miami with Taylor for a few years, and KGB is coming off of knee surgery so who knows how good he will be.
The likelihood of this happening is very very low. The Dolphins want a lot for Taylor, who lately has been spouting off about how he is preparing for a career after football. Also like you mentioned, the Packers have a pretty solid defense and do not have to extend themselves to pick up a player like Taylor, as good as he is.

Brew City already gave you a great answer. McCarthy has said that the team he has this year has just completed the most successful mini-camps since he arrived there. He went on to state that the only question that he has in his mind is the strength of the defensive line. Jason Taylor or any other big playmakers would be a very welcome addition to Green Bay's roster. They have plenty of room under the salary cap too, so I hope they doll out some more money before the season begins.

I'd love to have him on the team. He's still an awesome player and the perfect type of guy for the Packers lockeroom, organization and community. But if the Dolphins ask for anything higher than a 3rd rounder, I'm not sure if it would be worth it. He's still a great player, but what does he have left? 1 or 2 seasons? I don't think it'll happen.

The packers already have a solid defense, but if they could make it better with the addition of Taylor, why not? man, imagine that D-line, with Kampmann at one end and Taylor in the other? Their pass rush would be better than the Giants for petes sake.

What i do unlike relevant to the object is that it says that Taylor is only fascinated in enjoying yet another 12 months on a team with a shot to win a great Bowl. i think of it may be silly to commerce something greater suitable than a 4th around %. for a one 12 months fling. as stable as Taylor is, no team is going to furnish the Dolphins a 1st or perhaps 2d rounder for one 12 months of his centers. i could choose to make certain Jason Taylor in green Bay and could dramatically develop the pass rush. i assumed KGB replaced into lower back already?

You can always use more players. Now obviously the Packers have two very productive defensive ends in Kareem Gbaja Biamila and Aaron Kampman, but depth never hurt no one. It would be a great pickup for any team.

Here's what the sports fan of today needs to understand: teams have no interest in being good enough to make the playoffs and lose. These teams have their sights set on a Super Bowl, so if a really good team can get a great player that they feel can push them over the hump, then yes, they're justified in getting him.

KGB is rehabbing his knee, and may not be healthy enough for the start of the season.
The talks are "exploratory" at this point.
He would be a good fit there, but Miami is reportedly still demanding a first or second round pick.
That's too steep a price if he's only going to play one more season.
