Windows on HP laptop won't boot up! Blue screen of death?

My daughter has an HP laptop with XP installed. The other night she left her system on, we must have had a power failure because mine was "down" as well in the morning. My system recovered but when she starts hers it warns windows can't open, we chosen every option...open normally, safe mode, safe mode w/commands, etc..it goes onto a screen with all kinds of disk prompts, then to a blue screen with writing (which I can't read because it's only there about TWO seconds) then the next screen we get is the HP logo, as if you just turned power on. Any suggestions??? ANYone???? PLEASE???

Update:

thanks everyone! Don't believe in "shooting the messenger" lol...Kinda, sorta knew it but wanted a few more opinions, good to see everyone's in agreement! ughhh! Will TRY the system disk, give it a shot anyway..

Update 2:

annnnd....no angry with her at all...I'm all about being part of the solution, not the problem!!

Update 3:

**NOT angry! lol

This is what I would do.

optional 1. I would back up my data using a live cd called knoppix.. (if you do not know what a live cd is it is an operating system like windows but it boot from the cd from your ram so you do not need your hard drive to access it. you need to burn it with nero or an img burning program.)

    2. Once it boot up i would back up my stuff to the usb jump drive. also once you finish take knoppix out of dvd drive.

    3. After that when your computer is first booting up. (before it ask you about windows or what kind of safe mode you want to boot in to it will tell you if you press like f10 or some F key to restore the computer. (most new pc have this. from about 2005 and up) YOU HAVE TO BE FAST BECAUSE MOST OF THEM ONLY HAVE 3 TO 5 SECONDS TO CHOOSE. it usually say it at the bottom of the screen.

4 once you go to the restore screen click on advance button and one of them should say restore to FACTORY SETTINGS.

make sure you have your laptop plug up because it could take awhile.

    5. let windows do it thing and that should fix it.

Note: step 1 on backing up your stuff is optional. and if non of this works you can still use that knoppix cd to get an operating system... it is Linux.

p.s. don't get mad at your daughter if windows crashed. I have had something like that happen to me before not even touching it. (i think it went to a screen saver and crashed.)

I have an HP nc6320, which had the same problem. I tried to repair using the XP disk however it was a faulty hard disk and had to be replaced.

Try recovery disk. Then select Repair. At the prompt type: FIX MBR.

She has lost her HD and it needs to be replaced. If your system disk can see the HD you will be able to reformat the HD. Otherwise its a new HD
