shin pain!?

i exercise 4-5 times per week for roughly 2 hours at a time, mostly aerobics and running but at least 1 session per week with light weights, i also walk a lot as i work near where i live, recently i have started to get the mosot horrible pain in my right shin, around 2-3 inches under my knee cap (i have no pain in my knee) it started happening about 1 hr in to exercising but now it seems to start sooner and even hurts when i'm walking around? any ideas what this could be and how i can stop the pain? I have always worn trainers that are suited to the exercise i do and have even tried some new ones with no luck?

i'm 24, 5'5 and around 9 stone ...... followed the same exercise routine for around 3 years now ....

    It is common to get pains in the shins after doing a lot of walking or running.

    What you need to do is rest. You're not doing yourself any favour by continuing to workout while your body is trying to heal. This is an injury and it needs to be treated as such.

    Avoid heels, walking on hard surfaces without proper support, and excessive walking. If the pain continues for more than 3 days, seek medical attention to make sure that there isn't an injury that requires treatment aside from rest.

    When you go back to working out, try to ease up on your exercise and slowly increase the duration and intensity. Marathon runners don't start off by running 10 miles; they gradually increase their workout to suit their body's development. Also, watch where you're working out at. When you go to run, try to avoid roads and sidewalks as they don't absorb impact; instead, find a track or a dirt path to run on. When you do any sort of exercise with impact, you need to take extra precautions as, even a small impact can lead to injury.

    You sound like you are in great shape!I don't know how old you are, but sometimes injuries like these come as we get older. It also sounds like your body might be catching up to you. 2 hours of mostly aerobic exercise is a lot. Sound like a case of shin splints. Best bet is to let it heal up completely before doing any high impact aerobics on it. Probably be okay to do things such as biking or swimming. If nothing else, try dividing your workouts into two 1hour sessions today. If you don't let it heal completely, you'll probably only RE aggravate it. I know how it feels to not exercise when you want to so bad, but if you don't let it heal you might find yourself sitting out longer in the future.

    They are called " shin splints ". I get them in track all the time. It happens from running. Yes they hurt when you walk around thats normal when you have shin splints. You should try filling up a paper cup with water and freezing it, than ripping off the top edges when its frozen and rub the cup up and down your leg until the ice is gone. Or maybe you should try getting new shoes. Its better if you get your shoes fitted exactly for you, go to a shoe store and ask someone to help you pick out the right ones for you.

    Shin splints is quite common.

    Try not to wear high heels until the pain goes.

    Ease up on the exercises and then start again gradually.

    You have tried to do too much too quickly

    You might have Shin splints, have a read of this at Wikipedia for alot of info on it, I started running alot a few years ago and got the same pain.
