What's the best way to punish my children for this?
Yesterday was my birthday. Last month was my wife's birthday. In the weeks leading up to her birthday, those kids BUSTED THEIR BUTTS to earn money for a nice gift. I was incredibly moved.
Yesterday -- last night after dinner, specifically, when the day was all but over -- they came up to me and said, "Dad, give us $5 so we can buy you a pack of cigarettes".
Then they smoked half the pack on the way home!!!
AND IT WASN'T EVEN MY BRAND!!!!!!!
This won't do, and I'd like to punish them somehow for not treating my birthday with the same respect that they treat their mother's.

I would beat those little bastards until they couldn't pronounce anything with the letter "R" in it, if they were my kids.

i dont know if i would punish them per say.... smoking is punishment enough. what can you do, lock them up and ground them, take away their right to smoke, no tv or phone for a week? none of it will help, believe me. what i might recomend is as a father you take a day or two and print out from your computer some of the grossest pictures of what smoking does to your lungs, teeth, skin, breath, cancer, death and all of the other problems and risks involved. then print out a few pages of research (scary stuff). spend a night going through all of it with your children. Explain that you cant make them not smoke, its their choice (youd be crazy to think if you tell them to stop they will. if you tell them they cant smoke they will only want to do it more... just behind your back.) but if they continue to smoke this is what will happen. it will be hard for you to make a valid point to your children on how bad it is though if your children watch you smoke on a daily basis. dont worry about the birthday present or lack of it. birthday parties are about our children and for our children. there is probablly other problems in the relationship between you and your children though if they didnt even put in the effort to make a card or do something special for you. it should be about the thought not the gift. i would try to get to the bottom of what the real problem is first... good luck, noone ever said being a father was easy.

How old are your kids, if they are under 18, they should have their a@@ whooped, and so should you for giving them the money to get the cigs in the first place. If they are over 18, then suck it up. (no pun intended) They made their own money so they need to buy their own.
If you allow your children to smoke underage, maybe go and buy loose tobacco and a cigarette machine and make them roll/make the cigs themselves. It cost 50% less than buying a reg. carton. That's what we do. If they want a cig, they have to roll it. Make them pay for all supplies. At a tob shop in Cal. it will cost for tob, maker, and tubes $20 approx. and after that it costs us for tob and tubes $10.
Source(s): make them give you the money they made during all this time and go buy yourself something. - Corbin's MommyLv 41 decade ago
If they asked you for money to buy you cigarettes, then they have to be of age to buy and smoke them.. or you either went into the store bought them for them and handed them over to the kids to smoke?

Smoking is fine, but damn you should like send them away for like a day to Grandma's or something. Then you'd have the day to yourself. OR you can kick the crap out of those lazy kids.

Just pump them full of more stimulants and make them work harder?
I suggest espresso and more ciggarettes....
Wait no there kids right?! Don't do that.
How do they buy cigarettes? Is it safe to assume they are over 18?
I would be more pissed about them smoking, but hey thats just me.

Lock them in the cubbaord under the stairs for a long time, untill two weeks before Christmas, then make the work their butts off untill the get you a great present. If they fail. I know of a great lake to "teach" them to swim with lead shoes on.

I would ground the snotty children?
They should RESPECT your smoking, after all, they can have their share of second hand smoke, NO?
Teach them a lesson, i won´t allow this my children, they ask me for cigarettes any time, they get nervous,
