My Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Automatic 2002 cuts out?

It cut out a few times over Christmas - the Electricity Warning light comes on and the car stops. It re-starts fine and away I drive. And it normally cuts out at junctions and at times when slowing down.

I took it to a mechanic and he suggested "dirty fuel". That didn't solve it.

I took it to Vauxhall and they changed the valve that controls the car when the car is idling.

That seemed to solve the problem.

Recently, it has cut out twice again. I took it back to Vauxhall and they ran it on the computer, took for a test drive and said there is no fault. It cut out again today, as I was braking on a bend. Any ideas people? I have no confidence at all in my car now. When the engine cuts out, obviously the power steering and ABS also goes, making the car dangerous to both me and anyone following me.

I have tried googling the question and have lots of information that I don't understand, but may print off and take to Vauxhall dealer. Can anyone help in laymen's terms?

thats the issue with google lots of answers but all in tech terms or people quoting tech manuals for all i know it could be a ignition switch wire that grounds out on occasion or something as simple as a fuel pump going bad they tend to act fine when they are cold then as the engine heats up it cuts out killing the car print that google stuff you found and take it in with you

im assuming it doesn cut out when the revs are up off idol and being an auto that means it only cuts out when your going slow and the abs isnt on when driving really slow because otherwise you would never actually stop because the whole point of abs is to stop the wheels from coming to a stop to stop skidding so if the abs was on constantly the brakes would only slow you down to a certain speed befor they just stop working altogether. im gonna hazard a guess your one of those people that feel your engine must run of semi/fully synthetic oil like many idiots out there. it is a 1.6 vaxhall engine not a high performance ferrari, synthetic oils are simply too thin and end up getting thrown out into the breather system {pipe from engine to airfilter trunking} this ends up getting sucked back into the engine but when the throttle is closed it ends up going through the idol stabilisation valve which will cause problems after a while so my advice is stop wasting money on over expensive oil that shouldn be put in your engine to start with then you wont need to keep cleaning/replacing the idol stabilisation valve
