A question about Christianity and divorce...Opinions?
If a man entered into a marriage only because he felt it was the right thing to do because the woman was pregnant, but he does not love his wife, but provides well for both the wife and child, would God really want him to stay in a loveless marriage?
He's been married for over 10 years and has just recently started attending church again. He married to please his father and is starting realize that he can't have the kind of marriage he wants (one with love) with his wife, but feels that divorcing her would be against God. I'm a Christian, but I do not go to church and I feel that in order to have the kind of marriage God wants you to have, there has to be love. So far everyones answer are fantastic, keep them coming, and thank you for taking the time to answer.

God gave provisions for divorce... marrying because it was the right thing to do only to regret it, wasn't one.

Well, in the first place if he didn't love the girl he got pregnant why did he fornicate? That's the first sin and according to God's word he did the right thing by marrying her and he should really look to God to receive the love he needs to make this relationship work~it is honorable to remain stable for the child~ maybe they both need redemption and in that case they would receive the love necessary ~who knows, they are candidates for miracles

In such a case the marriage would not be valid from the start, and could be annuled. This has nothing to do with divorce from a Christian perspective, though he would still have to get a divorce to fulfill the civil requirements. Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's.

Why doesn't the man just ask God what to do in the first place, he can provide for the child without marrying the mother of it. The problem is people get married and never ask God if it is right because of the lust in their hearts, one towards another.

Is there any possible way that he can grow to love the woman? You can chose to love a person or not. If you do divorce, that does not give you the license to remarry. That would then be adultery.

Your vows are what they are. If you break them, then you will need to consider the consequences. Marriage is not something to enter lightly, as God does not take lightly.
