What to do about a horse stalker?

Ok. I have a 6 year old Paint Mare. I just bought her like 3 months ago. She's stabled at the farm I work at part time. Anyway, the stable owner's neice is in love with my horse. Apparently she really wanted to buy my horse when she was for sale and couldn't afford it. Now, this girl (she's like 17) has pictures of my horse all over her myspace telling everyone that this is her horse and look how pretty her horse is etc. It's really irritating me. People are commenting on how pretty her horse is etc. I'm not sure what to say as this girl is the neice of the stable owner. I don't think the owner would have a problem talking to her, but do you think I'm being a little too paranoid? I just feel like it's wrong for someone to go around telling people that my horse is hers.

Update:

Thank you all for your answers. I talked to the owner of the stables and to the girl doing the stalking. Looks like everything is taken care of. Thanks for the reassurance!

That is quite odd. I would talk to her aunt about it. If nothing is done, ask if you could talk to the niece personally. Don't be upset by it; that's a pretty good complement. But I understand how irritating that would be. Just politely ask the niece why she is saying that she owns your horse. Tell her politely that you would appreciate her not doing it any longer. If she refuses, contact her parents about it.

You could always buddy up to her on MySpace and then totally "out" her, that the horse isn't hers.

Awhile back, here on YA, some kids were posting pictures of horses they claimed to own...and a person who knew the horses and was well connected to the owner knew differently and outed them.

I'm not usually amused by the embarrassment of others but a couple of these girls were so obnoxious, I confess I got a giggle out of it.

If she was 13 or so I'd probably just ask you what's the harm, but it is kind of weird behavior for a 17 year old...but still, nothing she says changes anything in the big picture of things...it doesn't make the horse hers. If a bunch of people you don't know thinks the horse is hers, so what. And if someone who knows you both learns the truth, she's the one who looks like an ***...not you. If someone says "I thought this horse belonged to so-and-so...just say, "Uhm...no. Not in the real world at least."

If you want to talk to her uncle, do it from a compassionate point and be a man about it. Tell him people are asking you who owns the horse, and when you tell them he's yours, they make disparaging remarks about the girl's little jaunt to Fantasy Island. He may want to help her.

She's not doing any harm to you or your horse, and she doesn't seem to be making any money off of this, so I don't think you should make a big deal out of it. The best thing to do would be to either ask the owner to talk to her about it, or you should talk to her yourself. Chances are that she'll be reasonable about the entire thing and realize that what she's doing is bothering you. If you just ask, most people would be perfectly happy to stop. If, for some reason, she refuses to quit, I think you should try to ignore it. Though it's difficult, maybe you could try to think of it as flattering that she loves your horse so much. I agree that it's wrong for her to tell people she owns the horse when she doesn't, but I don't think it's worth wasting too much effort on.

Wow this is really bad and needs to stop right away. You need to go straight to the owner and tell them right away. ( you would think a 17 year old is mature enough to cut this bull out on her own) If that still doesnt work, then move to a different barn or just delete her from myspace. Yeah in the meantime, feel lucky that you have such a loved horse.

Go directly to her and tell her that you want those pictures of your horse down immediately. If she doesn't take them down, you can contact MySpace and they will take them down if you explain to them that you actually own the horse. If MySpace doesn't do anything about it, talk to her parents.

I would just clutter up her wall and say stuff like "Hey, that's my horse!" or "Oh my gosh, that's my horse! Take that down!" or just clutter her pictures up with stuff like that. But I don't really reccomend doing that because it might get you into some trouble, haha.

If her family refuses to do anything about it, I would change stables. Tell the uncle that unless he puts a stop to this, you will take your horse and your business elsewhere and will NOT reccomend his stable to any of your horse friends. Ever.

Just like the person above me... give me her MySpace page and I will tear her to shreds... it's not even LEGAL for her to do this. If you tell MySpace that this is illegal they will shut her down more quickly than she can say 'but it's my horse!!!'. What a creep.

If she's 17... tell her to grow up... if she were 5 maybe I would understand and not be so bothered by it... but she's almost an adult. She needs to get her act together.

I would talk to the stable owner, and tell him that you do not like this and that you want those pictures down now.

She can not be putting photos of your horse on the internet with out your permission.

And since you did not give her permission it is against the law for her to be doing this.

It does not matter on how much she loves your horse, it is not hers. Tell the owner that you do not like her around your horse and that you do not want this to keep happining.

Go to her myspace page, and tell her that that is your horse, not hers, and to take those photos down now.

If you dont want to i surly will. Give me the link to her myspace page and i will do it.

When i first got my horse, my sisters were all like YEA we got a horse! and i kept telling them, no i got a horse. Then they were like well we know its yours but its fine if we tell people its ours. IM like NOOO its not yours! and it wasnt.

So i told my dad and he put a stop to that.

So i do not think you are being paranoid and that you do need to put a stop to this. I would move barns if this girl was stalking my horse.

I wish you the best of luck. And remember i will go on her myspace and stop her from doing this.

HEY LOOK EVERYONE SOME LITTLE KID CAME THROUGH HERE AND GAVE US ALL THUMBS DOWN!!! lol GROW UP! like that was even needed!

its wrong, you dont even know if shes going to try ride your horse when no ones looking and your horse might get hurt and you turn up and cant understand why shes hurt, id talk to the stable owner about it and maybe check on her more often,

we had a similar problem with people climbing into our paddocks and riding our horses i work with and we'd bring them all in in the morning to find a couple lame and not been able to work for the week or two, good luck hope all goes well

You're not being too paranoid. It is completely normal for you to be proud of your own horse!

She is just jealous of you. Eventually, every one will get sick and tired of hearing about her/your horse.

Once she hasn't got anyone's attention, she may stop.

You should talk to her and gradually bring the subject about your horse. See how she reacts-embarrassed, annoyed etc.

And if she doesn't stop, you can simply do the same thing to her horse (supposing she has one). She will probably ask you why. Explain how you feel and she might understand!

    Good Luck

That's pretty creepy. I would be tempted to find another place to board my horse, and not tell her where you went. Is she messing around with your horse when you're not there? Riding her? It's probably just wishful thinking and won't be a problem, but I would be worried, too. Sounds normal for an 11 or 12 year old to pretend it's her horse, but not for a 17 year old.
