Should Christians be patriotic?

Where does it say in the Bible we need to love our country? Have we been fooled to think we need to love America to be "good Christians"? Aren't we supposed to hate this world?

Searching for truth...not the staus quo anymore.

Update:

jesuslard: Caesar is stealing that which is God's with unconstitutional taxation...and if you read that passage you would see that Jesus did not have a coin...he had to ask for one. Christians are so intertwined with this world. Do we need money...yes. Do we need to bow...no.

Depends on your definition of patriotic. In my opinion, I am patriotic because I pray for the leaders in this country every day. God put them there and as a believer it is my duty to pray for them. As for the jubilee celebration on the 4th of July, I do not participate. I do pray for all those serving our country in the armed forces both abroad and here in the states, which makes me patriotic.

As for paying taxes, it is your duty as a "Christian" to do so. There are so many verses about those who are a believer and a slave to serve their masters as serving the Lord. Pay your taxes on time and don't try to get every deduction in the world, just pay them. God will provide your needs.

    Indeed.

Jesus made it very clear that his followers should not be a part of this world and put hope into the ideas of man, which definitely includes politcal candidates. We cannot hope in man because his ideals are infallible and imperfect, but God's ideals and promises are absolute.

I have given your word to them, but the world has hated them, because they are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.John 17:14

We are to be citizens of a heavenly country, and have YAHOSHUA for King, not king George.

I agree with you. I am really pretty displeased with my country.

Render unto Caeser that which is Caesers, Render unto God that which is gods.

Of course, you're more than welcome to start your own country wherein you'll not be viewed as an ingrate.
