Hossa to Detroit, what's the issue?
I have read numerous articles from TSN to ESPN to local papers. Why do people have a problem with Hossa signing for less money with a team he feels has the best shot at winning the Cup? So, what if he had taken Edmonton up on the 10 year-$90 million deal, the writers would have complained saying he was being greedy and just going after the money and could careless about winning the Cup.
I think he is setting an example for other players to follow by choosing to sign with a team that has the best chance of winning a Stanely Cup, as opposed to signing to get paid.
Please, tell me what you think.
To all the Pens fans, this is the game you play when you trade for a guy, whose contract is up at the end of the season, at the trade deadline. Detroit has had is happen and so has every team in the league. So, now, because he didn't re-sign with the Pens he sucks. It's not like you didn't make to where you did last season with him, he was only around for the final stretch and playoffs. You still have Crosby and Malkin, and they just signed Fleury to an extension. So, your core is set. Be happy you have a contender still. You are the Edmonton of the 80s, they lost their first Cup Final appearance to the Islanders, then went on a dynasty run.

its kind of like, youre dammed if u do and youre dammed if u dont. he did what he thought was right for him, and no one should say a word about it.

The problem really is that the structure the leagues use for competative balance is based solely on the money (which is about the only way they could control it). If this becomes the norm for stars (and lately, if you look at all the sports leagues, it is becoming fairly common), they all will end up on the same team all the time.
Ask yourself this: Why does he want Detroit in particular? Wouldn't he have a pretty good shot along side other stars in Pittsburgh or Washington? Is it because Detroit has a strong recent history of winning the cup? If so, doesn't his going there increase their chances of continuing that history, and therefore promote the idea of other stars going to Detroit for the same reason? Wouldn't this sort of thing doom expansion teams from ever winning then, since they haven't been around long enough to create a winning history?
It's kind of the reverse of what the Cubs have been through for a while: Players not wanting to play there because of their long history of not winning the World Series. If you can't convince the good players to come and play for you, how are you supposed to win? It seems like the opposite is happening for the Red Wings: They get all the good players without even trying for them.
Personally, I think the good option is to either take the full money with another team, or resign for less with your current team to give *them* the cap room to bring in other stars.

Hossa went to the wings in desire of triumphing a stanley cup. If he is going that's ok. Detroit can use the extra money to improve the fairly some destiny stars from the minor league. Like Howard. they'd would desire to mark time for a pair of years formerly the gang is as much as snuff returned.

It doesn't bother me that he went to another team. But it's the fact that he made it such a STRONG point to make sure that Pens fans knew that he wanted to be on the team badly.
If he was doublethinking the issue, he should have just kept his mouth shut and not told everybody that he wanted badly to stay on the Pens.
And even Ray Shero stated that if it was a one year contract that Hossa wanted, he should have asked for one and Shero wouldn't have given a 5 year contract.

He cares about a ring...not money.
I hope the Pens go to the cup again and he's sitting at home watching the finals on TV.
EDIT: Never said he sucked...but his attitude about the situation sure did.

they think hes taking the easy way to the cup when they say hes not a goos playoff player also they think he picked the wings because they got a steady team going good de/offence and great goaltending.

It has something to do with setting the status quo for the rest of the players. Something to do with payroll and precedence....
