my puppy is sick?

I got a puppy about 2 weeks ago...(a gift) and we went on vacation last week, and got a puppy sitter to take care of her. We got home, and the first few days she was acting normal, happy, playful, just like she was before we left. and about 2 days ago, she got really lethargic, and seemed depressed. then she started throwing up, and got diaherrea(no blood in it), and she won't come when we call or clap anymore. she is about 8 weeks old. i planned to call the vet to get her shots this comming up, but instead, i called today to make her an appointment(shes going in on saturday). I was just wondering what i could do for her until then. she is so miserable...i feel so bad for her. at first, i thought she was throwing up because she ate a cookie my daughter dropped on the floor...but i think it should be out of her system by now. =/

so, any suggestions of what i can do to help her feel better until saturday?

Update:

Please do pray for my dog, and thank you!

She has not had any vac's yet, unfortunately.

Update 2:

I will try the chicken and rice.

I don't have any ground turkey available now.

Try to get her to drink plenty of water. The vomiting and diaherea can dehydrate her really quick. And I hate to be negative but that sounds a little like parvo. If you can get in touch with a vet sooner than Saturday I would give them a call and let them know what your puppy's symptoms are. Hopefully it's nothing though. Just love her and really try to keep the water coming. Good luck.

The puppy may have some kind of poisoning. If it is food poiosning, it may go away in a day or so. If however it has swallowed rat poison or something, he needs the antidote fast and only the vet can help you. You can either hope that he'll get well by himself (which has a high risk factor that he'll die insetad) or take him to the vet, there is not much else you can do really, I'm sorry but these are your options.

Just make sure she stays really well hydrated. The diarrhea and vomiting can be as serious as whatever illness she is, because puppies can dehydrate very quickly. Encourage her to drink just plain water every few hours, even if she'll only drink a little. Keep her out of the heat and sun until you can take her on Saturday.

If she worsens tonight or tomorrow, take her to an emergency clinic, especially if there's blood in her stool.

Do you know if the pet sitter took her anywhere while you were gone--anywhere other than your own home & yard? There is always a risk of parvo for an un-vaccinated puppy, and more risk in public places, parks, even common sidewalks. Parvo stays in the soil for 6 months, or longer. Has she had any vaccinations?

If this were my puppy, and still had diarrhea & vomiting, I'd be at the emergency clinic tonight.

Don't wait, take your puppy to the vet asap. Call the emergency vet now, just because there is no blood in the diarrhea yet, doesn't mean that it isn't parvo. At that age even intestinal parasites can cause death. If your puppy is vomiting, do not give anything by mouth, it will only cause it to vomit more. Get it to the vet now.

Don't want to alarm you but that doesn't sound good.

That exact same thing happened with my dog...and wll, he isn't here anymore.

I think you should hurry up and take it to the vet.

no blood is a good sign.

All you can do now is pray (if you believe in God) and let your dog know how much you love it.

Just listen to what the vet says on Saturday, if he says, the dog has to stay over night, well then...........

um good luck, hope he/she is ok

don't get scared, your dog needs you right now, show all the love you can

I'll pray for your dog tonight

I have 2 small Yorke's. They both came down with the same thing as you are saying. I took them to the vets after a few days. I wished i didn't wait. They almost died. He tried 7 different kind of medications . The vet told me that he even called other vets to see what he should do. He was doing everything they said. We kept them on the medications. and just gave them rice with gravy on it. They finally got better after 3 weeks. They had a very bad case of the flu. One of them just got over having the flu again. As soon as i saw him not feeling well i gave him rice and took him to the vets. He gave him some medications and now he's doing great. I wouldn't wait. take the puppy in as soon as you can. [ like now ] GOOD LUCK !

Boil some white rice and some chicken breasts. Keep it very bland, just boil both, they should settle her stomach. If the diaherrea doesn't stop, give her some canned pumpkin (not pie filling, just pumpkin) that should clear it up!

Aww I made that dog food for my dog after he got hit by a car and had really bad diherreah and he looked so happy. Make sure she gets enough water (diherreah=dehydration) and fix that food and just let her rest. That food will make your puppy so much happier and it's good for them and won't make their diherreah worse like reg dog food from the store. My vet actually recomended it after I told her that I was making it because it helps their tummies, the reg dog food has by-products and oily crude fat that upsets a sensitive stomach.

I give my dogs a pepto bismol tablet when they have an upset stomach. It works wonders.
