Help my cat!?
My cat is pooping outside his litter box and the poop has fur and pieces of cat food that I don't feed him in it. His poop is a reddish kind. Its the neighbor's cat food. What do I do? What can I do to get my cat to use the litter box and have the right brown looking poop?
It is not an option for my cat to stay indoors. He is very attached to his neighborhood cat friends and I think it is cruel to keep my cat indoors because he is very independent.
My cat doesn't care for catnip.
At night I keep my cat in the garage so he won't get into cat fights or anything.

Are you sure it's poop and not a hairball? Inappropriate pooping and strange looking poop would be cause for a vet visit. Take some of the poop with you so the vet can see exactly what you're talking about. Hairballs need treatment too. They are not normal and can be fatal if not treated.

First of all be responsible! Keep the cat indoors! What is wrong with you people????? If you had my job and dealt with all the grief I do over cats dying from poisons outside maybe you'ld wise up. Cats need to be inside! There are more than 100 plants alone that can kill a cat, not counting the hazards of traffic and other predators. Ever see someones' cat or small dog get picked up by an owl or hawk? Anyways try baiting the box with catnip, or a product called "CAT ATTRACT" works pretty well. Have an extra litterbox also, Some of our felines prefer not to "mix" their waste and will poop in one and pee in the other. hope this helps. P.S. KEEP YOUR CAT INDOORS! PLEASE!

Firstly if you are not prepared to keep your cat indoors, you will have to accept the result, and goodness knows where else he is eating, and what. What do you think is more important, independance or health?
Secondly your cat is part of the one third part that shows no reaction to catnip,. you can try Valerian or Honeysucle instead, same effect.
You will have to retrain your cat and that would necessitate keeping him in one room with water food and litterbox until he gets the idea.

Take you cat to the vet and make sure that he is in good health. Sounds like your cat is not only eating the neighbors cat food but eating mice.
Keep your cat in to keep his digestive tract in good shape and direct him to the litter box many times during the day. If cats go outside the box, it usually means something health wise is not right.

I know that Places like pat smart have pheromones that you can put in the litter box to help the cat stay in the box because they are attracted to the sent. The food issue may be resolved if you ask the neighbor to put the food inside their house or you could switch to a new brand. Animals need variety just like we do. they will tend to try to switch it up on their own bur you should try to alternate food brands every few months. Also try wet food instead of kibble or vise verse.

The food must hurt his stomach, but just in case, I would go to a vet and make sure that he does not have a prolapse, but that is very unlikely. Maybe limit your cat's time outside, or make him an indoor cat.

did something change in you house to get the cat upset they do that when they are upset it could be some fur from him or mice if he goes out try kepping him in a while and of that helps or if keeps up take him to thevet and as he is pooping pick him up and put him in the litter

I read somewhere that if the cat avoids the litterbox it might be because it hurts to poop and he/she associates the litterbox with pain. It might be a good idea to keep him inside for a little while to monitor his diet. If he doesn't improve soon he should see a vet.

Stop him from eating outdoor prey and food in other people's cat food bowls--keep him inside or only take him out where you can supervise him.
