Good Housekeeping did an article on natural laundry detergents, and Purex Natural Elements did pretty well in their tests. I went out and bought a bottle, and I am hooked. Our clothes seem cleaner, and they smell amazing. The Cherry and Vanilla Blossom scent is wonderful.

Personally I like Surf - Sparkling Ocean
But I don't think that laundry detergent on it's own will leave that noticeable of a smell. I always use Downy - Vanilla Lavender Fabric Softener (Liquid and Dryer sheets)
My clothes smell so good for many days.
I washed my sheets 2 weeks ago and they still smell like Downy. It's amazing.

I have tried everything because I like clothes to look perfect. I have found liquid Tide to work the best. It is just so dam expensive and runs out quick! So, I only use that detergent on darker colored clothing thatI really care about. For the rest I use a powdered Tide. I refuse to use any other brand because most them leave those wierd grease like stains that wern't there to begin with. Gain and cheap detergents will do that. I think they do that because they have put more "scent" in those detergents than cleaning agents.
Sources: I also worked for drycleaners/launderers for many years.

According to consumer report magazine Tide is the best detergent for get your clothes clean. Tide is also expensive so I usually buy whatever's on sale sometimes it's Tide or Gain. I also use liquid fabric softner is the wash cycle and a fabric sheet in the dryer.

Gain laundry detergent comes in many scents but i have tried a laundry detergents Gain, Foca,Cheer,Purex and Ariel.
I prefer powder base over liquid which is a blue color liquid and if not diulted propertly it will stain any clothes on your clothes.
So I right now I like Purex it cost 3.00 for 30 loads.

Why do you want to smell like laundry soap or soap, if it is clean that should be the best result.I have always felt that when you walk into the door you should not smell like soap or downy, Why? Being clean is a statement or put some cologne or perfume if you want people to remember you with a scent, and stay with the same cologne or perfume if you want to be remember with a scent for at least 6 months before you switch to another scent.

Gain is alright but the best so far for a good value and to get your clothes clean is arm and hammer detergent. Tide is the best and for one reason. It is a good quality product and you will pay more money to wash with Tide but sometimes the money is worth it.

I also think Tide smells great but is a little expensive. Using a good smelling fabric softener like Bounce will help keep your clothes smelling fresh and clean.

I like Cheer w/colorguard for the job that it does. It must smell good, but I didn't take note. I recently switched to Purex due to my recession, but I don't think it's as good. Besides, softener leaves all the scent I need.
