You might try putting his pads in a cardboard box at first so he has to stay in there until he empties out. When he finally goes, praise him and take him out of the box. As he gets better about going, you can cut down one side of the box so he can hop in and out on his own.

When you can't watch him or when you're away from the house, leave him in a pen with just his bed on one side and the pads on the other. He most likely won't want to go to the bathroom in his bed, so he'll get into the habit of using the pads.

Some pads have a scent that helps to let the dog know that it's a potty area, so you might want to look for those.

The Housebreaking Bible website has a lot of information on how to train puppies to use pads when they're in the house: http://www.thehousebreakingbible.com/training/pape...

It will take some time to get him housebroken, so don't get discouraged that he's having problems in the beginning. He'll get it if you stay consistent.

House training a dog takes a lot of work and consistency.

It doesn't happen all in one day, especially with such a young puppy.

I don't recommend those pee pads because that teaches a dog that it is ok to use the bathroom somewhere in the house and it is very hard for some dogs to understand that they can pee in one spot in the house, but not anywhere else in the house.

When house training a puppy, you need to take them out at least every hour. When he eats, make sure to take him out 20 minutes after eating, as puppies digest food pretty quickly. Take him out 15-20 minutes after drinking water.

Take water away after 8pm. until you wake up in the morning.

    I also recommend crate training.

When you are going to leave the house, for any amount of time, puppy goes potty, goes into the crate, and when you get back, immediately take him outside.

Young puppies shouldn't be crated for more than a few hours at a time, so have a neighbor or someone let him out after 3 hours or so. At night, same as leaving. Take him potty, put him in crate, and expect to wake up a few times to let him out. When you wake up for good, take him outside immediately.

Completely potty training a dog takes a lot of patience and several weeks. Some can do it in 2 weeks (if they are over 10 weeks already) and some do it in a month. Be patient and consistent. If you don't catch the dog in the act of relieving himself, you cannot scold him for it. Just pick it up and make sure to watch for signs of needing to go (sniffing around, turning in circles, etc.) If you do catch him using the bathroom indoors, clap, make a loud noise, firmly say, "NO" and immediately take him outside.

When he goes outside, praise him like he just pooped or peed gold. Be embarrasingly excited about pottying outside! Say, "Good potty outside. Good boy." You could even give him a small treat. Sooner or later, he will get it. You just have to be consistent.

    Good luck!

No way is an 8 week old puppy of any breed going to be house broke, it will takes weeks maybe even months of you being constantly there keeping a sharp eye on him and taking him outside several times during the day and night, since their bladders are so small they can not hold it all night until they are several months old. this is not being stubborn this is being a BABY. Since he is only 8 weeks I assume you just got him in the past few days two weeks tops and this is no where near enough time.

He is only 8 weeks, you wouldn't expect a child to go to the potty at 1 1/2 would you? You got to give him time.

I never tried to train my dog to go on those. I always just took her outside so that it doesn't matter if she walks away. It's also kinda confusing to the dog when you say "go on this pad" and then you start saying "don't go on the pad, go outside".

  • RELAX. PUppies don't get potty traing done in one day. It takes time and consistency. You could also purchase housetraing books

usually smaller dogs are harder to potty train because they have "smaller" brains and its hard for them o pick up your command but dont give up keep trying! Good Luck!!
