What part of becoming "oil independent" are we not getting?
A couple of years ago I was watching a documentary on fuel alternatives, when the arab nations thought we might start making our own fuel from corn they said they would drop the cost of oil so low it would undercut the expensiveness of producing it from biodegradable products. I think I would pay ten dollars a gallon if it went to pay American workers instead of supplying terrorist nations.

The problem with ethanol and other bio fuels made from corn kernels is that it takes 4 gallons of oil/gasoline to make 5 gallons of the biofuel. This is because corn based fuel is incredibly inefficient, they only tried it because at the time corn prices were so low it was economically viable and that the usage for ethanol would inflate the price and help the farmers through artificial demand. Now that the price is high, all we are doing is wasting money and resources. Not to mention driving up the price of food.
Bio fuel can work if you have the right kind of crop to do it with. Brazil is a great example, they use sugarcane and they are nearly oil independant (for fueling cars). If the US used the whole corn stalk or switchgrass or some other method of production we could reduce our oil importing by a great deal! However, this is unlikely because the goverment's agriculture policy is set up to support the farmers' profits, not the country's interests.
Perhaps in the near future the current energy/ag policy will shift to allow a more beneficial program to evolve.

I honestly believe the price has been manipulated by OPEC to go up in an effort to influence the elections in the US. If we vote Obama, the prices will level off, maybe drop a bit. if we elect McCain, they'll send the prices up higher. The democrats keep blocking our ability to drill and the dems and the media can blame McCain for the crisis, the government keeps making billions on the high tax revenue per gallon that they receive and business goes on as usual for all the democrat fat cats and environmentalist wackos who believe it's better for the environment if we all wear sweaters and ride bikes. This is the agenda they have been pushing for years. They said they want the price of fuel to go up so people don't use it. They now have what they want and they are still not happy. now they want more of our money to throw away with socialized medicine (because the govt. runs social security so well) We need a president and elected officials with a backbone to do what's right for America, not a big bone with which to screw Americans. And if Obama is elected, they are going to stick it to us soooooo bad that these times of the Bush administration, etc, that the media is ranting about, are going to seem like a walk in the park.

You can't just say Arab nations are terrorist nations. There are terrorists and terrorist groups who happen to come from Arab countries and in fact, many other non Arab countries in the world.
If the current oil price trend is what it takes to get the largest contributors of pollution to start implementing alternative, cleaner fuel supplies, then I'm all for it.

I hope you youtube Lindsey Williams, his book " the non oil crisis " is the most revealing thing i've ever read, he was an exec for a major oil company, he said the Federal Government railroaded oil finds in alaska, they made every effort to make sure no oil reached our tanks, he said wallstreet bankers and Arabs would often visit alaska to monitor the progress, and then find a way to shut things down and bankrupt the independent drilling companies, its all a scam.
The Worldbank and IMF control the worlds oil supplies and determine the price of a barrel.... its all about control, power.
these banks print money out of thin air anyways, these banks fund terrorism, because they benefit the most through instability in the world, and oil prices are the evidence for that.

nope, we can't, we owe to much money, this goes way beyond what people are willing to admit
every other excuse is a smoke screen,
think about it
we do have our own, but don't use it,
we have alternatives and some of the greatest minds in America, but we don't use them,
why not?
cause we can't, we owe to much money and can't pay it back
we are paying it at the pump,
