Housing cost in Bangkok, Thailand?
My company is planning to send me to Bangkok, Thailand for a long period of time. I am looking for a decent 2 bed room apartment for me and my wife for rent. Prefer if its fully furnished with a kitchen.
I have found several web sites providing rentals but not with a kitchen (although they told me I can cook in my apartment) and they are not too expensive. Less than USD$300. I need something more comfortable for my family.
I have also been told that Farangs looking for apartments usually get jacked around. Now I have lived in Shanghai, China for a year so I am well aware of the difference foreigners & locals pay.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all the advice. For sure, I will end up in a hotel for at least 4 weeks. I am just looking for a price range because it was difficult to find an apartment in the internet with a kitchen which i found strange.

Farangs dont get jacked around any more than anybody else, there may or may not be a double pricing system in place...this is dependent on where you are looking..
In BKK you can get places across the board as regards the cost....THB 4000/month to skys the limit...
The biggest thing to consider regarding accommdation is whether its located on the main transport routes...ie Sky train or subway....
The best thing to do is get into BKK into a hotel for say 7 days when you arrive and do accom hunting when you are here, will find it a lot easier than doing it on the internet...at least then you can physically look at the place..

I would recommend you come here and stay in a service apartment for a week or so and look. Finding a good place on line is almost impossible. Plus you don't state where your be working that is important. Rush hour here is crazy you can spend hours in traffic, having a place on the skytrain or subway line to work is something to look into. You also don't state your price range. I am surprise your company does not assist you in this or have their people here already sponsor you. Your find some foreigners own condos which the rent out for investment. Maybe someone here can give you the name of a good rental agent. Good Luck

If you are replacing another employee perhaps his place may be okay for you or your company may have some suggestions.
Like the other posts mentioned - wait until you get to Bangkok and see some apartments first. Otherwise, you may get stuck in a neighborhood that is far away from the Skytrain route or even a convenient bus and you end up taking a taxi all the time.

Good luck.
