Who's better references on an application?

I'm going into my last year of high school and looking for jobs right now and I've heard that it may be better to put references down like teachers, neighbors, family friends, basically adults rather than my "young" friends. So I was just wondering who everyone else puts down as references. My friends know me a lot better than others but adults would be a bit more honest, which should I choose?

Update:

I was thinking about using a teacher as one reference since my teachers know best about my work habits but the applications says people I've known for atleast 5 years, are they gonna hassle me for putting down someone I've known less than 5?

Being only a high school student, I don't think they will hassle you for putting someone down that has only known you for a couple of years. Definitely use teachers or counselors. There should be at least three. Only put a friend if you absolutely can't find anyone else. Family friends could serve as a good reference as well.

Also, ask these people and make sure that they feel comfortable being a reference for you.
