Doesn't God contradict himself when he says "thou shall not kill" and then he kills the firstborn son of

every family that did not put lamb's blood on their door?

"im pretty sure God can do whatever He wants, and if you remember there was a good point to Him doing that."

To the person that said this I truely hope you have greater moral values than this. That anybody could justify the deaths of ALL firstborns most all of whom are surely innocent is ghastly.

Read your bible, God has an ego (needs to be worshiped and not have other gods worshiped) God is vengeful. These are human qualities. God has them because we created all Gods in our images to explain the things we could not understand.

When I read somebody saying that the killing of firstborns like that could be justified I fear for humanity. Those who believe that anything 'in the name of god' can be justified are to be feared more than any other in this world.

There is a big difference between murdering someone and capital punishment. Many states in America exist with both laws today.

There is no place in the Bible where God commanded someone to murder someone else. This is different from God judging certain people worthy of death and their punishment being carried out by other human beings or through natural events or even supernatural events. The killing of the Egyptian first born was a punishment after Pharaoh was repeatedly warned.

God said that the salary of sin is death. The Egyptians had a choice to heed to God's command by putting blood on their door...but they chose not to. Actually, some did it and their first borns were not killed. Those left Egypt w/ the Israelites.

All killing that goes on in the Bible is not without warning. All people knew who the Israelites were and had heard of the God they worshipped. Most of those people chose to not change their ways, so that's why they were killed. However, there are several examples in the Bible of ppl (other than Israelites) who did choose to change and follow God...those were not killed. See stories about Ruth, Raab, Moses wife, Abraham's wife, etc...

    Whoa!

I'm no Biblical scholar, but that sounds more like the flight from Egypt than by Moses and them, when the Egyptians were going to kill each first born son.

Not even the Old Testament God would do that, and He was pretty harsh.

    1. Thou shalt not kill is only one of His commandments. The people God killed disobeyed other commandments. 2. He did not kill His Son. He sent His Son to die for our sins, but thankfully, His Son did not stay dead. Jesus is alive and well and sitting at the right hand of His Father in heaven.

No, God made those rules on mt. Sinai. This happened after the killings of Egypt. You will also see that God never said HE would not kill, he made that a law to guide the people. Also, He said he would punish those who did not obey him.

This may sound contradictory to today's beliefs, but this is old testament. In the new testament he focus' solely on the subject of salvation, hence why Cristian's (etc) no longer are commanded to kill lambs for forgiveness. all they have to do is ask for forgiveness and it is given.

First things first, God can do whatever He wants. With that said, why did he kill the first born? There is a big difference in "thou shalt not kill" when talking to us and God doing the killing, a HUGE difference. It's not even the same sport different!!! Go look it up and you'll see.

there is a difference between God punishing a group of disobedient people and the dictates He sets for His people. God struck down the firstborn of each household that did not heed His warnings, so they had every opportunity to save themselves.

He was telling that to people not to Himself. He did not say, "No ONE among us must kill." He said, "THOU (you) shall not kill." Don't you ever read properly? God is the only ONE who have the authority over your life; so, He can take it anytime He wants to but none among us have the right take anyone's life. unless He orders us to do it for Him like in war against His enemies.

Maybe it is his game and his rules. Perhaps you ought to study the bible to understand more. Don't just grab a snippet from here or there and think it is all screwed up.

Besides, if God brings anyone home to Him they are far better off than where he found them.
