So, Favre to "compete" with Rodgers over the starting job?
Was watching ESPN this morning and they said the Packers will likely have Favre compete with Rodgers for the starting QB job. Why don't they just tell Favre he's got the job back? Obviously he's shown he's a better QB.
If I was Rodgers I'd ask to get traded.

Agreed, If I was Rodgers I'd be outraged. Greenbay Fans don't even like Rodgers, he should go to the Bears or the Vikings, that'll show those Cheeseheads.

What? Compete? It is because of Favre's excellence in GB that he is able to ask for whatever option he wants. He technically owns GB. You see he has taken them to two championships, won one, and took them to the NFC championship last year, along with gaining the respect of those within the organization and the league. Favre doesn't have to prove himself or compete with Rodgers. He has his job no matter what because he earned it over the years he has been in GB. ESPN is good to find out the latest sports stories, however there are times when ESPN plays a story up just to get viewers.. He will easily be welcomed back to GB with no competition from a guy that has yet to start a full season or gain respect from the fans...

If Favre does compete for the starting job , he will be the starting QB for the Packers next season , after all the goal is to win games and everyone knows Favre will give the Packers a better chance of winning , after all he did lead them to the NFC Championship game last season , and who wouldn't want a starting QB on their team that led them to the NFC Championship game last season

The Packers by no skill permit Favre go. Favre left becuase he retired, and whilst he replaced his recommendations, he threw the Packers under the bus and went to the Jets rather. humorous how the Packers ended up triumphing the excellent Bowl final season without Favre and characteristic a appropriate record this 12 months. i do no longer think of all and sundry misses Brett Favre.

Brett Favre is way talented and at his age, You have to say your retiring after every season because if you do not and continue to play during the offseason and get hurt then its much much worse on your career of how you left the game. Its smart on his part...I really think he is a smart man..I feel it is somewhat of a distraction because he could be having a conversation with Billy joe Bob at a golf club and talk about missing the game and everyone makes a huge deal about sources close to him says he want to return to the game. Its media but how does he suppose to react? He's only human!!

Favre is not going to compete with Aaron.
The Packers are simply doing what they need to from a business standpoint. They were not simply going to give Brett Favre away for nothing.
Now that Brett officially said he wants back, the Pack will be taking offers for him. See what they can get.
Remember, if they bring him back as a backup, they still have to pay him 12 million. They are NOT going to do this.
If no teams make offers for Brett (unlikely) then they will release him. His contract is way too rich for a backup.
Aaron will be the starter on opening day, and Brett will be a starter elsewhere...Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Vikes, Bears..
Source(s): Very suprised that I am the only one who sees it this way. Maybe I am wrong...but I don't think so. I would bet a good deal of money that Favre does not start for the Pack next year. - 1 decade ago
favre caused the packers to to draft 2 qb's this year because he retired. the fans should be upset that now he wants to come back. they should trade brett to a lousy afc team and let him get crushed and retire again.
