Is Hellboy in love with Liz in the comics?

Caught Hellboy last night on TV and enjoyed it, and being a nerd, now want to get into the comics.

So are HB and Liz an item in the comics, or is this just some del Toro creative license? I was just wondering, because watching Hellboy pine after Liz was kind of compelling--I like me some unrequited love.

So? Are they or what?

    Nope, Liz and Hellboy have more of a brother and sister relationship in the comic and aren't involved romantically with each other

    Im not sure all I know is from what Ive heard is the first movie really follows the hellboy comic book stories while the second movie is a lot more of a del Toro piece.
