Smoking Help?
So Back in March, I quit smoking after 6.5 years. I had been smoking at least a pack a day. I used Chantix to quit. In late May I started smoking again after a car accident. I want to get back on the bandwagon, but can't afford the $130/month prescription. I am only smoking .5 pack/day now. Please help with advice about what worked for YOU or a LOVED ONE. No lectures please. Thanks!

Now that we understand the science of smoking, we understand why it is so incredibly hard to quit. The cigarettes have 'rewired" your brain. Before you smoked your first cig, your brain had millions of things to think about but inhaling smoke wasn't one of them. After just a few cigs, your brain has changed its entire priority system. Cigs are now the absolute number 1 thing your brain desires. You can not use The Power Of Positive Thinking to overcome this. Your brain will not be fooled by your efforts. which is why you would like to use the Chantix to help you. It's wonderful that you are down to 1/2 pack. It shows that you are determined.
If you knew that is was nearly impossible to quit, could you live a life with 3 cigs a day? I think you could do this. Each time you want to reach for a cig, think about the "wiring" in your brain that is telling you to do this. You could tell your brain how good the next cig is going to taste and look forward to it even tho it will seem like a long time until it comes.
I may sound too negative but it is so much stronger than any of us realize.

Unfortunately, I don't know of anything that's as effective as Chantix. You can use the Commit lozenges -- they allowed me to stop smoking before Chantix came along & are more effective than gum and the patch.
Oh, and why can't they take some of those high tobacco taxes and subsidize the cost of stop smoking medications?
