Did anyone receive any strange wedding gifts?
I don't want to come off as ungrateful, I am very thankful when anyone sends us a gift and I immediately send each one a thnk you note. I just wonder if any of you have gotten strange gifts that you didn't quite know what to do with. My mother insisted I send and old friend of hers an invite, so I did. Yesterday I received a gift from her. It appears to be a glass dog food bowl (I don't have any pets) with the word "Cincinnati" etched on the side. I lived in Cincinnati briefly as a child, when my mother met this woman but I haven't lived there or visited in at least 16 years. It just seems so strange! My mom thinks I shoud just give it to Goodwill, but I feel bad. I don't know what or when I would ever use it though! Did this happen to any of you? What did you do?
No problem Old Metz, send me the postage and I'll ship it right out! LOL
My mom did suggest re-gifting it when one of my cousins from Cincinnati gets married but I don't want to wish it onto anyone else. It's so strange!

I think in this case, Goodwill will be most greatfull :] Sometimes you just have to have a private giggle and share these things! Our wedding presents were mostly from our gift list which was lovely as we were just setting up house - but I do recall the FIVE...yes FIVE flowerpots/ vases we were given as random presents. It was quite funny as at the time, hubby and I were just renting a two-bed flat with no garden!

In 20 years from now, you will be able to match very few gifts with their giver...but you will never forget this one.
I would keep this 'odd' bowl for those odd occasions such as playing bridal/baby shower games where guests have to remember what is on a tray....when your having a bunch of friends over and want to start an interesting conversation, put this bowl out filled with salsa dip and enjoy watching the reactions. You'll get to hear a lot more weird wedding gift stories! Lastly, maybe this lady is a physic and your dog Cincinnati is just a couple of years away, lol.

If you think of it as a strage gift you can't see using for a pet but can't bear to send it to good will use it for a herb pot on your windowsill (depending on the size)
fresh herbs only need a little soil and can run rampant in the garden. Fill it with dirt and plant some chives or basil or something! That way you might even be lucky enough to bump it off the ledge and break it whilst still being able to say you used it.
Weird gift though....

We did not register and when people asked what we wanted we said "Just come, that's all we want!!" so we did not receive many gifts, the one that sticks out most is a sculpture of a couple entwined, I am not an ornament fan and thought I would hate it, but it has been sitting on my dresser for 2 months now and we have both grown to love it!

With my first wedding I ended up with two toasters and two electric blenders..and I held on to them...when the first one 'blew' I had the second one ...saved me having to go out and buy new ones.
No clock in the nude lady's belly figurine tho.....guess I was just lucky.
I would hang onto that strange gift.....do you have a place where your guy will empty out his pockets of loose change, keys, etc......guys will select a place, usually a piece of furniture that scratches, and out of the pockets everything comes....then it gets scattered, misplaced, etc sooooo...
...use it as his catch all bowl....either on a table by your front door, or the top of his dresser...maybe the night stand on his side of the bed.....eventually you may have a pet...consider naming him/her Cincinnati lol and you're one step ahead....or one day it can be a 'job bowl'...when hubby has a project that entails screws, washers, itty bitty parts-he can keep it on hand to catch and hold those things so they don;t get lost while the project is in progress.....
..but I'd hang on to it...even if it's just for a good laugh...good luck.

I kind of wish I got an oddball gift like that because it's good fodder fro funny stories later. All our gifts were the typical (not complaining) money or registry items. The oddest thing we got was BBQ tools and a gift cert to a local meat market--which I thought was really clever, personally.

Someone gave us an old blender that had obviously been sitting around their garage since the 80s - while it had never been opened, the packaging was turning yellow! I have no idea what to do with it.
Re-gifts always seem to find their way to me. My great uncle and his wife once sent me used tea light holders for Christmas...complete with used tea lights! That was years ago but it's still funny to think about now.

she probably picked it out of her closet and wrapped it up ;) with that being said, I would not worry about getting rid of the bowl unless she's a visitor in your home. If not, who would be the wiser......
I've gotten gifts over the years, not for wedding, that have come out of granny's closet and trust me, they don't even remember what they're passing out half the time so one year I just put it all in a bin for good will. I really don't need a crocheted toilet paper protecter!

Our friend gave us a fake dog poop. The saddest thing is that it was our first wedding present. We kept it and throw it at people who sleep on our couch after drinking too much. But, we're young and crazy like that. I'd give the bowl to goodwill. Someone will love it and the woman who gave it to you will never know.
