What are the best sneakers/athletic shoes for someone with ankle problems?

I have broken my ankles numerous times, and am due to have ankle reconstruction in 3 weeks. I am looking for a pair sneakers that are constructed to support ankles. And I am not looking for hi-tops.....I know that's a safe choice. But I am looking for cross trainers. Thanks.

BTW.........someone suggested the New Balance 854. Any feedback?

I have ankle problems also & I love to run but my ankles swell up & hurt like heck. I love my Nike: SHOX for long distance running b/c they are comfortable & supportive. One minus is that they are heavy & I don't think they're good for sprinting. Maybe that helps? hope so. =)

Ouch! If I were you, I would seriously just wrap thick bubble wrap (the sticky kind with the big bubbles) from your knees down. It's lightweight & waterproof (your name is "Beachman").

Seriously though, you should just wear sandals...Or "mandals" as I've coined them (man sandals).

Good Luck on your surgery. Hope you stop breaking your ankles!
