What's the difference between "Light" and "Raito" in Death Note?

In the crazy world of Japan L is essentialy pronounced like an R due to the fact that there is no L sound in the Japanese language.

And adding O to the end of english words seems to be something that Japanese-types do.

Thus "Raito" is born. So his name really is "Light" but, as they pronounce it in Japan, it sounds like "Raito". So you were basically dead on.

light is the name the author gave to the character.however,in japan,that's what the name light is pronounced like.because they often pronounce L instead of R and R instead of L and they add vocals at the end of the words.you will understand this much better if you take a look at the hiragana and katakana charts.all the silables in that chart are used to form words.here are some links:

ETC. you'll find a bunch if you search on google.so the whole idea is that they can't pronounce any words if not using those sillables.take for example "thank you".japanese people say "sankyu" because it's sounds similar to english but its pronounciacion is also similar to they're native language one.you can say that they actually transform the english words in order to be able to pronounce them.as a result, LIGHT has become RA-I-TO - formed with the sillables in those charts.if you pronounce it quickly you realize it's the same word.it's only a slight difference.

Nothing really. Yagami Light is the name of a main character from the series Deathnote.

'Raito' is just how some translators (without reference to the manga) put the name down as based on the pronunciation. (in Japanese the 'r' instead of 'l' is most common and 'o' at the end somewhat so too)

So you're right about that. 'Raito' is how they'd pronounce it usually in the anime, because to them its as well as 'Light' can be pronounced without unreasonable effort!

Even the Polish subs, I'd be willing to bet went by how the name sounded!

Since Death Note is from Japan I'd say Light's real name is Yagami Raito... Light Yagami was the translated/english version name of his.. Light was supposed to be japanese right? So it makes sense for him to have japanese name--Yagami Raito not an english name, his father name is Soiichiro Yagami... make sense?

There is nothing different. The original name for him IS Raito Yagami, but they seem to change it to Light. If u listen carefully, when they say Light in japanese, they actually say Raito, since jap people cant say the letter L. When they say L, they say Eru...get what i mean?

It depends on pronounciation. "Light" is used in the english version of the manga and anime, and "Raito"(the japanese way to pronounce it.) is what many fans prefer to pronounce it as.

The omnipotent God CAN do lots of things but all that concerns us human beings on the Earth, IS already guided by the eternal laws He decided and TOLD us in the Bible. SHE did it being deceived and no evil consequence happened, but when she gave it to her husband..., and he had been told precisely what was expected and what were the consequences, but he chose to ignore God's instructions and followed his flesh desire and therefore he and she and all the descendants from them had altered circumstances.. then, basically God spoke to those who reached out to him and it came down to ONE family who had not contaminated themselves and it was Noah and his offspring. Then mankind grew over the face of the earth again and eventually God called Abraham and made a covenant with him and His offspring to be able to bless the earth again..., and from that covenant came Moses and he received the 10 Commandments (Law of God), rules with which to discipline yourself toward holiness. But, ONLY through Jesus Christ is our sin nature; received generationally through our "earth-father" Adam; removed by His death, burial and resurrection. Now, Jesus being our substitute who took our "death consequences", has left us FREE to live with God as He originally intended in blessings and right relationship with Him so we can "be fruitful and multiply" in all that we do! Wrong actions, unloving actions, malicious actions, selfish actions CREATE a negative harvest no matter if you are a Christian or not.., but you and I are not even in the ballgame (so to speak) until we confess Jesus as Savior and Lord and allow Him to lead and guide us through life.., we MUST BE BORN AGAIN.., and then we are adopted into the family of God and eligible for all the blessing He had prepared for us from the beginning of time. God LOVES people, but God is duty bound to PUNISH SIN. Jesus is our "sin substitute bearer".., and He is desiring to wipe any person's sins away through acknowledging what He has done on your behalf. Until that happens, we are not eligible for the kingdom of God and we are destined for eternal punishment with the devil and his angels. Wake up and call on Jesus as Lord (until we do we have the devil as our lord by default since he took away Adam's authority in the earth) God sent us a way out of this delima. The devil is always accusing God of wanting to punish us.., not so, God wants to rescue us and teach us how to be like Jesus. If you stump your toe, it hurts... natural negative consequences.., God says "walk with Me by walking in love as my Son Jesus did, since he paid for your sin and took your punishment, and I will keep your foot from stumbling".
