Batman Beyond is probably what you are referring to.  It was a cartoon series and they also had a couple of movies.  Return of the Joker and self titled Batman Beyond.

It is probably Batman Beyond that you're thinking of.
It was an animated series that had it's run on the WB for a while.
It ended, but it was a pretty sweet cartoon series.
