Question for Christians *and* atheists, about horoscopes...?

1. Au contraire, atheists can be quite spiritual without believing in deities.

2. I read my horoscope everyday and notice how uncannily vague and applicable to anyone and everyone they are. I just find them amusing.

I used to look at them as a kid. Not that I believed there was anything to them but I did often notice that they had some pretty accurate things to say about me. Then I started realizing that they were just so general that it SEEMED like they were about me. Humans have a funny tendency to read a bunch of stuff, to disregard the 9 things that are wrong and then latch onto the one thing that is right and say, "WOW, that's amazing!"

And speaking of amazing, I read about a trick that the famed Magician/supernatural debunker James "The Amazing" Randi often did where he would get a bunch of people from the audience and have them meet with an astrologer. Then they's come onstage and he'd hand them horoscopes written for them by the astrologer. Then he'd ask them if they felt the horoscope fit them extremely well and they they'd all say "yes, definitely!" The, he would have the first person read their horoscope out loud and the others would all gasp because they had all been given the SAME EXACT ONE!

1. In Christianity it is considered at best nonsense and at worst sorcery. Both of which Christians should not be involved with. 2. I think of the story where King Saul consulted the witch of Endor and God condemned the action. Consulting mediums or spiritists was against God's law. Horoscopes could be considered another form of this due to those creating the horoscopes. 3. We've obviously found some atheists on this question who say they do. Zodiacs, horoscopes …

Despite the jokes made about the belief in the signs of zodiac, such a belief exists. It is curious, but the people who refuse to accept the idea of the one God Creator, prefer submitting to some imaginary rams that are running among the stars. A housewife ignores the words of Christ “love your neighbour”, but listens to the TV speaker, if she says “you will have a hard day today, avoid the conflicts with your relatives”.

The fact the man is directed to the mysterious side of his existence, speaks about the duality of human nature. On one side, the immediate world, the seen one, but on the other the mystical world, unknown and unsure, but present latently in everyone. The man believes, if not in God, than in anything else. For instance, the students from Iasi , during the session do not walk by the wall of the former publishing house “Junimea”, because it could go wrong in the exams. The others, because of the same reasons, do not step on the canalization hoods.

The inner world of these men is a kaleidoscopic, disordered world which leaves its imprint on the way of thinking and perception. From here comes the fragmentation of the modern world and, especially, of the post-modern one, the world of clips and collages.

The man needs landmarks in the Universe, he cannot exist by himself. The experience of fear, loneliness, pushes us to the strangest beliefs. It s true, there are stars and constellations, each with its own name and trajectory, but how can we believe that an irrational body can somehow influence such a complex being as the man? As a matter of fact, the man in his complexity, can believe that even the moon, which is nothing else than a boulder, can decide his destiny! This belief reminds me of the Creanga’s personage, who cried fearing the salt boulder from the top of the stove.

The Holy Fathers say that the habits are the second nature. That is why, the man who listens a long time to the horoscopes, begins, at last, to be the shadow of his sign of zodiac. These men do not realise they are becoming very vulnerable, because it is enough to find out his sign and you can make with him what you want, manipulate him as a zombie, this being especially relevant for women.

We are invited to imitate either Christ, or the zodiac’s rams, bulls or crabs. Through imitating, we become, states the orthodox ascetics. But, of course, everyone is free to choose what he wants to become.

As an atheist, I put as much stock into horoscopes as I do any of the gods that are worshiped now or in the past - none.

That does not mean I do not and have not read them. Even the horoscopes will tell you that they are for entertainment purposes only. If only religion had been kind enough to provide that statement for itself as well.

I read an interview with one of the most respected horoscope writers in Britain, the newspaper he wrote in used to sell over 4 million copies a day at that time, he said he used to make them all up on a saturday, from a little book he bought for 10 quid from a bookstore in Euston station. Thats what I think of horoscope readings

The idea that 1/12 of the people on earth have the same traits and destinies because of their birth month is ridiculous enough to not even bother investigating. It can be proven utterly absurd by simply finding two or more people born on the same day who have different personalities.

They are pagan, and I don't use them for that reason.

Atheists can be spiritual. What do you call Buddhists? I enjoy astrology, I like reading peoples' horoscopes just for fun. The mythology behind the signs is awesome too.

When I was atheist I got a psychic to give me a reading, she was only right about one thing and that was that a man was comign into my life and by then I was saved and my husband came into my life. I use to have psychic powers but it is not the gift of prophecy, it is th eability to read souls and it is a pagan or demonic gift. I believe if you listen to the horoscopes then you are letitng staan guide your life and not God.
