I am serious...?
As a Christian, is there something wrong with me doing Yoga and doing the little chants and mantra's that they do during the class? I know that my heart is with Jesus Christ, I just don't want to be doing something I shouldn't be doing spiritually and not even realize it....

He that knoweth to do good and do it not, to him it is sin. If you dont feel like chants and mantra are wrong and you love Jesus then I dont see how it could be wrong. PRAY ABOUT IT> and dont ask others the world is full of people who just love to condemn, blame, mock and mislead others.

Why do you have to do things that are not really part of what a christian should do. Yoga and doing the little chants and mantra is part of Hinduism. Hinduism isn't good for the followers of Jesus Christ. If your heart is with Jesus Christ, just focus on His Word. the Bible.

I thought I'd google this dilemma for you and found a unique website. This should help you get beyond the "legalisitics" that some Christians get wrapped around, and instead just keep the straight line of keeping your eyes focused on Jesus.
Enjoy your yoga....

Not at all but I make my own chants and mantras that express my Christianity but have the same syllables/calming effect. Yoga is good for your health...don't let your beliefs stop you.

Part of Christianity says to take care of your body, and yoga is a very good way of doing that. As I understand it, the Mantras help you focus in one the movements, or lack of movement, in yoga, and really have no deeper spiritual meaning. I would go for it, and not worry about corrupting your beliefs.

No you are doing everything just fine by Jesus as long as you're not hurting anyone, which you're not, so keep up the good work, and you are making Jesus proud, no matter what exercises or prayers you may say or do. Be well.

You should ask your pastor about that, sweet girl. Yoga is part of Eastern mysticism and is considered "religion" even if it's only exercise. The chants and mantras prove this, and are not of God. Whether you're aware of it or not, you're delving into something very dangerous for a Christian.
God bless you!

I do yoga, and I am catholic. I have been told i'm not supposed too. But I think its up to you. I do it purely for the relaxation and stretching. i also stay away from the doing the chants. It is basically a exercise...... but at the end of the day its your decision. I think if you think theres in nothing wrong and have good intentions... why not...

David had a series of specific ways to meditate, none of which involved repeating a mantra.

Oh boy. You need to really figure out what you believe in as a christian and what yoga actually is before you go making irrational statements. Personally, I have christian beliefs and I practice yoga. I find meditation and yoga really allow me to open up my spirit to the spirit of god. And just so you know, when you are of a Christian faith, it doesnt mean you have to believe in 100% of everything that goes allong with christianity. People these days think as soon as they label themselves with a religion they have to follow all the 'rules' and 'regulations' that follow it. You have a CHOICE! Think for yourself and find out what you believe and what you dont! Follow your heart and you'll find it
I agree 100% with dingdong!
