What is a reason life time for a DVD player?

We have used 2 SAnkey DVD players and both gave out after, at most, 150 uses , 3 movies a week for a year. This seems a short usefeful life time for the device. SO what is about average useful life timeeor are we just using a sh*tty brand. We keep them in the dark and use dust covers when not in use. ANything else we should do? Are there any useful optical cleanrers on the market ? We tried 2 and they made no difference. Both possible repair estimates made replacement more practicable.

i would say 1 to 5 years depending on ho much you use it and the quality of the device. i would try a different brand as they are going down in price.
