When christians refer to jesus as their shepard...?

yes some of us are lost sheep, but we recognise his voice when he calls,we respond in a likewise manner, so he leaves the other sheep that are faithful and goes in search for us, so take heart all is not lost if you just call to him.

Sheep don't blindly follow whatever leads them. In fact, what Jesus said at John 10:27 "My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."

They will not listen to the voice of strangers, in keeping with the scripture found at John 10:5 "A stranger they will by no means follow but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers."

Jesus didn't use these as metaphors, they were used as illustrations. Metaphors don't necessarily have to be accurate or true. Illustrations must be based in reality to be effective.

Yup, and as a farmer, i understand precisely what happens to sheep and different livestock. The shepherd would take care of and carry them at the same time as they stay, yet while they are grown, nicely...you recognize what happens. I follow Jesus, He is my Sheperd, I was blind, just like many others are, sheep's are dumb, they get lost very easily, I was lost ,but now am found.

We do blindly follow wherever Jesus (the good shepherd) leads. It's called faith.
