Is it possible to be a conservative and not have watched fox news?

I NEVER watch FOX news. I couldn't tell you anything about any of them except I've heard a guy named Hannety (spelling?) after the Dodger games a little, and I know he's a member of FOX.

Let me just say this. Our media has gone to the dogs. I used to watch Murrow and Cronkite, so I have the depth to make a statement like that. I don't watch Fox because they entered into the scene, albiet to fill a gap, on a decidedly conservative agenda.

In a simple analysis, it's not hard to see the media siding with liberals. Every single job at TV News is a union gig. Liberals are for unions. Duh! There was only one left, that understood the job he was given and worked accordingly... The passing of Tim Russert marked the end. He was the last bastion of fairness in the media, and now that he's gone, I am, for the first time in my life, considering watching a bit of Fox.

Update:

The FCC has tried to keep election coverage fair over the years, but Congress keeps butting in and making laws, overriding the FCC, laws that fit the agenda of the current majority. Today, through Congressionally amended US Code 315, it is okay for the media to wear their likes and dislikes on their sleeves when it comes to the candidates.

In fact, the news sux in general, due to Congressional meddling. I don't particularly care about whether or not Britany is wearing underwear when she gets out of her limousine, but it led the news that night. IF MEET THE PRESS IS EVER INTURRUPTED BY A CAR CHASE AGAIN, I will personally go down to KNBC and kick some ***! I'm 52 years old and I've not hit anyone in over 30 years, but these media people are out of control and I would actually enjoy it! My first trip to jail would be worth it!

US Code 315 needs to be returned to a previous state where all candidates receive equal time, with a needed amendment that all party's candidates must reach

Update 2:

a certain threshold of voter acceptance through petition (in order to not clog the airwaves with candidates that don't stand a prayer in hell of being elected.) The FCC has been enacted to work on the behalf of the American People. Congress always has agendas, one way or the other. I think the FCC, if left alone, would do our bidding in a nonpartisan way.

I'm just looking for fair here. Anyone have a problem with that?

I'd like to, just once, see McCain get an "UP" on CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, or MSNBC. In fact, it's been quite some time since McCain got any time he didn't have to pay for.

Friends, the media is picking your next president for you. Is that the direction you want your country to take?

Before you say "I choose who to vote for in the booth" consider that every big corporation in the world has used TV advertising to get where they are. When you walk down the isle at the supermarket and put Colgate toothpaste in your cart, you are making a decision, but what informed t

Update 3:

but what informed that decision?

Half the battle in overcoming the media's biased behaviour is recognizing it. As one American to the next, whether you are for Obama or McCain, surely you recognize the danger of the power of the media gone unchecked.

Update 4:

By the way, everyone always gets a thumbs up from me for taking the time to read and answer my question.

Update 5:

Nikki!

I've been following your questions and answers for quite some time. Your analysis of the situations, as they come up, have been insightful and pretty much right on the money. Often they include reputable links of support. I've learned as much from my association with you here at Y/A as I've learned from my liberal buddies, if not more.

I've ignored Fox because I didn't want to become jaded. I've been able to maintain my conservative views without their help, but I must admit, Tim Russert was an island in a sea of enemies for me. I looked forward to his broadcast every week, and I'm not nearly as happy with his temporary replacement. No one should show up in that position not anticipating the answer to questions...

Fox, admittedly conservative, tries? The liberal media threw caution to the wind this election.

Take me back in time to Edward R. Murrow. Let me please see Walter Cronkite do the news--just one time this election. Tim Russert, please speak to me in my dreams!

Update 6:

I just want fair. The media has hijacked my television set. What's my choice? As the liberals would say: Change the channel.

I live with the FCC on a regular basis in my work. You'd better believe that I've become like a shark in the waters when I talk to them. I will get my message across to those that have a say. I only hope it's in time, I hope they are willing to listen, and I hope it does some good.

AGAIN: My complaint is nothing more than a desire for fair and equal coverage.

Update 7:

Belldoll:

I don't think unions are categorically bad. I was just trying to offer a tangable and legitimate reason for the media's bias towards liberal thought.

I should say though, if you worked for a union for 30 years and still need to work, your union might not have been as good as others.

Very well put, Earth. Your analysis of today's news media is spot-on and I couldn't agree with you more.

As for your question, I would imagine that there are many conservatives, like me, who gave up on the other blatantly liberal TV news outlets and, out of frustration, turned to FOXNews. I've been a registered Independent for years (former Democrat) and have always made a point to watch different news networks for a well-rounded view of the issues. When it became apparent that each of the major network and cable news programs had a liberal agenda, I tried FOXNews.

While many claim that FOXNews is strictly conservative, I can honestly say that it is the ONLY news network in which I find a balanced presentation of the facts. The programs I watch always have guests from both sides of the political aisle when discussing issues. Their "fair and balanced" slogan is true, whether or not liberals want to admit it. In fact, the Center for Media and Public Affairs (a leading nonpartisan media watchdog group) has "found that Fox News Channel's evening news show provided more balanced coverage than its counterparts on the broadcast networks" in regards to the presidential election.

Moreover, they stated, "Fox News Channel’s coverage was more balanced toward both parties than the broadcast networks were. On FOX, evaluations of all Democratic candidates combined were split almost evenly – 51% positive vs. 49% negative, as were all evaluations of GOP candidates – 49% positive vs. 51% negative, producing a perfectly balanced 50-50 split for all candidates of both parties.

On the three broadcast networks, opinion on Democratic candidates split 47% positive vs. 53% negative, while evaluations of Republicans were more negative – 40% positive vs. 60% negative. For both parties combined, network evaluations were almost 3 to 2 negative in tone, i.e. 41% positive vs. 59% negative."

I continue to watch the other news networks but take anything said during this election cycle, in particular, with a grain of salt as I consider the source.

Edit: My views turned conservative many years before I started watching FOXNews. Also, TV news is not my only news source...I employ all media - TV, newspaper, news magazine and web-based news sites - to garner insight into current events.

I am conservative and did not watch FOX until about 2004 when I was sick and tired of the other Media and their liberal agenda bias. At least when I watch FOX I get both sides of the both sides of the argument. The coverage of Obama by the other networks is just ridiculous. He can do nothing or say nothing wrong in their eyes. I wonder if they really even pay attention to what he is saying and the meaning behind all those crafty words. Take his speech in Berlin for example. So much was what he said comes right out of the Woodrow Wilson playbook its not even funny.

    Sheeple please wake up!!

all of what you say is true. Some of us have known that, but don't say it quite as well as you. The only thing some retractors do not know is Fox has multiple formats. News, commentary, analysis, financial, interviews, even current events and comedy. Try the O'Rielly Factor, Brent Hume and Hannity and Colmes to get an idea of their impartiality as a network.

I watch Fox, MSNBC, CNBC and a variety of others. I have a tax and investment business and it helps to keep up on all of the political and economic world. The only good news is that every new President always makes changes to the tax code which brings in more business.

I agree----even Fox is liberal----there are two anchors I admire that are unafraid to speak the truth on Fox-----and that is Sean Hannity----the good half of the Hannity & Colmes segment----and then there is my beloved Neil Cavuto----he sure does tell it like it is-----many favor Bill Oreilly on The Oreilly Factor segment----guess I'm a little farther to the right than most though---you might want to watch his "No-Spin" zone and judge for yourself----I bop in there every now and again.-----the only real right-wing news in on the internet---thats where you can get the straight facts----unadulterated

--there are several good ones but I do not have time to read them all-----but I have a favorite and get the news emailed to me every day from : OneNewsNow.com

    Amen Dude!

And Yes, you can only be a real conservative by Not listening too Rupert Murdock Controlled media, aka. Fox News. They spread the Kool-Aide! Keep thinking for yourself. And I bet you'll remember my sign off. I now use it to expose the Fascists that have taken over the Republican Party.

    Better Dead then Red!

    President Obama!

Of course it's possible to be a reasonable conservative, yes. Unfortunately, not many in the media do their job very well anymore. I myself would say Olbermann does, but he does have an obvious slant: but, at the very least, he doesn't disguise it and has his facts straight.

As much as MSNBC is somewhat liberal bias, FOX is just as bad for the conservative bias.

There's nothing wrong with labor unions. I worked for a union for 30 years and didn't know how good I had it until I started working retail. NO union, NO security, no fair wages.

I agree with you %100!!! Whatever happened to reporting the way it's supposed to be done, WITHOUT bias? The lack of professionalism is astounding. I am literally beside myself everytime I see them gushing Obama this and Obama that- it's F@#CKING ridiculous and they have no shame anymore!!!
