High Fiber Diet?
I'm going to go on a high fiber diet to try and lose weight. I'm 5'4" 145lbs. My goal is to weigh 120lbs. My biggest problem with diets has always been because of my job I don't eat for hours and then I'm starving and eat something I shouldn't. I heard fiber will prevent that. The first time I did a high fiber diet I stopped after a week because I kept having to go to the bathroom. This time since I'm aware of that, how long will that be going on?
My plan is Breakfast: cereal or oatmeal
Lunch and dinner: Rice with chicken and vegetables or a sandwich with whole grain bread or a pizza pocket with whole grain crust.
I also brought some Benefiber. I have a water bottle that follows me everywhere so I'm going to mix in some Benefiber.
What else can I eat? Also how soon will I start to lose weight?
If you are going to say that I'm detoxing or cleansing my system I don't want to hear it. All that is nothing but pseudoscience and snakeoil salesmen.
My cereal is going to be mosting raisin bran or shreaded wheat. for my oatmeal I'm going to add things like raisins and bananas.
My sandwiches are going to have tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumbers in them.
My asian so I have to eat rice.
Here's the problem with my job.
I work as an assistant manager at a drug store.
I'm needed in 50 places at once so I forget to eat. I usually only have time to grab a quick drink of water. When I get hungry in the middle of the 50 things I need a quick fix so I grab the nearest candy bar.

I would stir some sunflower seeds or nuts into the oatmeal for more protein and to fill you up longer.
Also, even if you are busy at work, you could probably have a quick snack, right? Like a banana or Kashi granola bar? That would be really good to have mid-morning to hold off your hunger.
I also like the chocolate-peanut butter rice cakes, they are pretty good.

Fiber is great for filling you up. However, you should implement 2 snacks in between and make sure you don't wait longer than 4 hrs before you eat something. Your meal plan should be about 1400-1700 cals depending on how active u are, in order to lose weight adn split into several meals. 3 400 calories and 2 150 calorie snacks would be ideal. I think you should try fiber 1 cereal with flaxseed for your morning and mix w/ milk adn warm it up. I do that, and put some splenda, cinnamon, raisins, and almonds and it tastes kinda like oatmeal but sweeter and is very high in fiber (22 g!!) Try sprinkling 1 TBSP of fiber in the mornign, 1 into your yogurt or something as a snack, and another somewhere in a soup or something. Fiber does keep you full longer so its good b/c u wont want to snack on junk, but u should usually eat every few hours to keep your metabolism going. Also try working out 30 min a day. Finally try implementing blueberries and some green tea. Antioxidants are great for diets too! they help clean you as well!

Whole fruits and vegetables are great for increasing your fiber intake. Definitely add fruit to your breakfast, lettuce in your sandwich, and try brown rice with black beans (very high in fiber and protein).
I can't say how long you'll have digestive issues- try tracking your diet on www.sparkpeople.com. There's an option to track fiber so you know how much you're getting - there is such a thing as too much :)
Weight loss is not an exact science, and it really depends on your calorie intake, not your nutrient intake. If you eat 1200-1500 calories a day (probably about right for what you have proposed), you should lose about 1/2lb every week. Don't get discouraged if nothing happens for 2 weeks or so, it's hard to see that slow change, but stick to it and you'll feel the difference.

You need to eat more volume to prevent hunger. I know the struggle, after feeling like I've been starving all day, I hit fast food for dinner. If you add a lot of fruit and greens to your menu, you will get fiber and nutrients and hopefully it will last you longer. Too much fiber causes my tummy all kind of distress...gurgling, bloating, sometimes gas. You should increase fiber in small increments but even that won't work. Beano helps, but nothing has worked 100 percent for me.
If you eat less calories then you burn you will lose, don't rely on only fiber. Your diet is low calorie if you can stick to it, but I would add fruit for breakfast and some salad with your sandwiches...lots of leafy greens.

Make sure the first ingredient in the bread products you buy is whole wheat, if it says enriched flour or wheat flour then it is not real whole wheat. Fiber bars are a good idea to snack on, Eat whole wheat rice and pasta instead of white rice. Also fruits and vegetables have fiber. Like apples and broccoli. I hear this is a really good way to lose weight and be healthy.

High fiber foods are very good for you, but also look at your portions and get a lot of exercise.
Your breakfast seems alright, but for lunch and dinner, switch white rice to brown rice and skip the pizza pocket. Try to switch up your foods every now and then so that your body doesn't adapt to it.
Good luck(=

fibers great for curding hunger and good for you if its good fiber. only thing is there diff. soluble fiber good for digesting food and moving it thru the body. Insoluble fiber sits in your stomach and because it fiber your body wants to digest it bad so it keeps tryn and gets a little nutrients out of it. But a high fiber diet can be bad with out plenty of water. So drink at least a 8oz glass with anything high in fiber and if you think of water drink it. and fiber pills are great but your body reacts better with food fiber. I love the GO LEAN HONEY AND FLAX CEREL is the highest in fiber food ive seen and naturally more PB is also good. and remenber if your cutting food your cutting nutrients. AND YOU MIGHT NOT EVERY SEE RESULTS ON FIBER ALONE. Eat about 5-7 small lite meals a day with water with each one this speeds up you metab. And exercise is the best way to lose weight.

Rice cakes. They're high fibre, filling and only about 30 calories each. Keep some in an airtight box at work.
I agree with your comments on "detoxing".

I prefer both fruits and fruit and vegetables better, however they look and taste. You desire a little of both.
