Is it legal for my dad to make me pay rent?

Im already paying for my own food, clothing, personal care items, ect. Now my dad says I have to pay rent...im only 14...is this legal for him to make me pay rent? My only income is $100 a week from babsitting...and I dont get paid for doing the TONS of chores that I already do...

So is it legal for him to make me pay rent?

Update:

to Hey You!: 400$ is NOT enough, im barely making it now...i have to buy prescriptions for myself...and those are really expensive! With the cost he wants to charge me for rent that would leave me with $150 a month for food, clothing, personal care, ect.

Update 2:

also, i dont have a cell phone, and everything i buy is basic...i dont buy things i dont need [ie clothes, cell phone, snacks, ect.] i just buy the bare minimum

No, it is not legal . You are a minor and entitled to a father's support until you are 18 . It's his job to see to it that you are taken care of .

Talk to the local police department .

No way. Why would parents pay child support if it was?

You need to tell some one this that can help stop him.

Or you need to start hiding your money and refusing

to give it to him. If he kicks you out than he can get in some

serious trouble. And $100 a week thats alot. lol.

BBBUUUTTT. If he is chargin you for luxuries like EXTRA clothing

cell phone, make up you know all of the luxuries than he should

\have a right to charge you...But for food that is just wrong!

Yeah it's legal but he can't kick you out if he's the legal guardian. It depends on how much he's charging you monthly. $400.00 a month is just enough for your own food, clothing and everything else. He should keep the rent below $75.00

If you are 14, and your dad does not provide your food and clothing and personal care items (which is his duty as a parent), I think you should tell someone because that's messed up!! You could probably get him in some deep doo doo if you really wanted to.

woah...thats crazy. I don't know about all the legal stuff, but he is very out of order! My mum wouldnt make me start paying board until i was out of education, whether that mean 18 or whatever, and in a good enough job that i could afford to, and then i wouldnt have to pay much!

You are only 14...he is meant to be looking after you, it was his choice to have a child, you dont have to pay!

whaaaaaaaaaaaa?! ... as far as i know your legal guardians must take care of you and all your needs until you are 16 or 18 years old ( cant really remember) you should check some sites with laws of your country

haha $100 dollars. Jus wait til your out on your own your paying $700 dollar rent then you have to pay for all of your things, gas at $3to$4 dollars a gallon = $65 a tank for every 2 weeks. Car payments. Gas $40 Water bill, Utilites, $60 to $200 dollars electricity. Etc. Jus consider it him preparing you for life.

He can't expect you to pay bills if he isn't doing any kinda work tho.

I don't think he should be able to do any of that to u if your only 14. i would understand if you wer 18 but that is just cruel!

im pretty sure its not. if you havent gone to court and "said im under 16 but i can take care of my self" which is called an emancipation than im pretty sure its not. ask a different adult about it one u are close to and can trust ar ask ur local athoraties
