I've done rituals for people without their knowledge, and I don't think it's a problem as long as you're not trying to make them fall in love with you or stuff like that.

I think healing spells for people are fine - ethically it's kind of the same as praying for people who are ill. So I guess a good luck spell or a protection spell for Tony Stewart shouldn't be a problem, as long as it's done in a way that can't bring bad luck to anyone else. But relating the spell specifically to the championship might not make a lot of sense - just a straightforward good luck or protection spell for the man himself, I reckon.

Well no, I haven't, because I'm not really into sports that much. And as you said, I'm pretty sure the gods don't care who wins! However, I don't think there would necessarily be anything wrong with doing one. Sending your team or athlete some positive energy to accept and use as they see fit would be my approach. You know, harming no one, according to free will, for the highest good. My ritual group has done rituals for other public figures, actually. I guess that's the same thing.

Honestly, as long as there is no financial (or other type of) gain for yourself, I don't see the problem.
