What are the laws pertaining to cemeteries?

So a police officer in a township told me and my paranormal research group that it was illegal to be in ANY cemetery in Michigam after dark, even if it was public property. However, when we got to our hometown and went to the police dept. to see if we could visit a local cemetery, they basically said to go have fun and that they'd let dispatch know.

So I went to look up Michigan's laws pertaining to cemeteries and I couldn't find what the township officer had been talking about. All I found was that it was illegal to hop fences and we hadn't been hopping fences or anything. I then went to look up federal law, and I couldn't find anything there.

So does anyone know what the law pertaining to cemeteries is? I'm so confused because of the contradicting statements from both officers.

Update:

Sorry, I meant "Michigan" instead of "Michigam"

It is up to local law, not state law. Any city or town can pass such a law.

The cemetary can also be classed as closed at a certain hour, which means anybody other than maintenance or security on the grounds is trespassing. If the cemetary is fenced, and has closed gates over night, you are trespassing if you enter.

You received the word from officers in 2 different cities, which can have different laws.

the township was correct in mentioning to you. You can't enter after dark.

Smiling reminded me of a teenager years ago he and his girlfriend enter a cemetery at 11pm and went parking. He received a over a 200.00 fine from

the police. Came into work asking how to hind it of his step father. he had the parents car. Of course we worked for for them. He asked not to say anything inwhich I kept my word. 10 year later we talked about it and smiled

The township should help with the by-laws or even the county where the township ly in

I don't know, but I lived in Ohio and I was randomly putting flowers on graves that didn't have any and the police told me that I had to leave because each grave was private propertyy.. I don't know if they were lying to me or if that is actually the truth, but it may have something to do with it.
