Why do they say it will take 10 years to get oil from offshore drilling...

when it is well documented that such deepwater platforms have gone from planning to pumping in 3 years. Countries like Denmark and Brazil have had similar timelines for drilling and construction from their deepwater rigs. The longest construction period I could find was 4 years on one of Denmark's rigs. What gives? Why can't the media just tell the truth instead of spinning everything with a liberal ecoagenda?

Update:

18 billion barrels have been found in the gulf of Mexico Genius also:

Shell decided Brutus’s location in the gulf would be profitable for drilling in April 1999. The company then built the massive oil platform, transported it to the right location in the gulf, anchored the floating leviathan onto the seafloor 3,000 feet below, drilled 17,000 feet below that, and began producing oil in July 2001. It took only two years to get Brutus online.

Update 3:

Troy, Are you the only person that doesn't know that Brazil just found 33 billion barrels in the Atlantic and have secured every available drilling rig they can get their hands on in the world?

Update 4:

Osto, thanks for all the extraneous info, I think you meant to say it would take 4 years or less. I think the US could do it faster than some third world country could.

The media "selects" the "experts" that they want to use for their stories and they chose the ones that support the line they want to sell to the American public.

Why do they run constant stories about the polar ice cap melting and cute little animals dying?

They never, ever run any stories about reputable scientists who have other points of view.

When Al Gore was on Meet the Press, he was alone with no opposing point of view. There are many reputable scientists who have thoroughly debunked his pseudo-science. Many economists have said that his plans would financially ruin the developing world and cause famine and wars. He doesn't care and neither does the media.

It's their point of view and they're sticking to it. Screw the facts.

The Democrats use old data and outdated opinions.

When they have hearings in congress, they get to decide who will testify because they are in the Majority and the Committee Chairman is a Democrat.

That's why the Committee hearings are such 3-ring circuses.

They invite "experts" who will say what they want them to say.

Any other point of view is not allowed.

The information the general public gets is controlled by the media and the Democratic Majority in Congress.

1 this isn't Brazil or Denmark

#2 Even if 10 new rigs opened and were drilling tomorrow it wouldn't reach the gas pumps for over 10 years. Why because the refinery's are at there max production rate and therefore couldn't produce more even if we had more oil.

the governores of the coastal states have to allow drilling. some of them would not allow it.

the state legislatures, of the coastal states, would have to pass laws creating state oil overseeing boards, and the boards would have to hire people to work in them. the oil boards with the legislatures have to agree on how to collect and how to spend/invest the lease money and royalties(this turns out to be a bigger problem than it sounds like. all state agencies want a share and it is hard to get everyone to agree what to do. it was a problem in my state when it happened.)

the states will have to map the ocean floor and auction off the rights to lease and drill. this is done by the state board. the ocean floor is divided into tracts, companies survey the tracts and bid on them.

currently the vast majority of our offshore oil rigs are under contract to drill in other areas. many of the rigs under construction are already leased when they become available. building an oil rig is a big job and not a lot of companies are capable of doing it.

there would have to be a network of underwater pipelines installed to deliver the oil to shore. there would have to be onshore facilities built to recieve the oil from the pipelines.

this might not take 10 years, but it is a fairly slow process.

it is not like , OK lets drill anywhere you want, everybody go have at it.

    ------------

any rigs currently in the gulf of mexico are in waters off of texas LA, MS and AL. these states allow drilling. these states already have oil boards. they already have the infrastructure. the pipelines, etc. they have had it for years. it is a big headstart over states that do not have it.

Source(s): my son works for Rowan Drilling. my brother in law works for shell offshore. he is in charge of multiple rigs , a VERY good job.

I find that hard to believe. Source?

I work in manufacturing. Some of the components for those rigs are huge and have lead-times of years to engineer and produce never mind the necessary government approvals. So I'm not buying your lead-times.

Interesting Brutus is exactly producing as expected and the project started in 1988. So the lead-time was just a tad longer than 3 years.

Because the news media don't know their rear end from an oil well. they just say what the libs want them to say and haven't got a clue what it means when the cry "Suck on it driller" is heard. And that is not a dirty saying it is something oil riggers actually say, when bringging in a well.

It is very simple. They are leftists. Leftists lie because they have to. If they don't lie and tell people what they really are, they don't get elected.

To be a leftist, one must accept the fact that it is alright to be a liar. Quite simply really.

There is no bill for drilling....

    It doesn't exist....

The Republicans are trying to flip real estate while we suffer at the pump.

I dare you to show me a Republican Bill for drilling.... It doesn't exist.

They could drill right now if they wanted to... The oil companies have MILLIONS of acres of land leased for drilling... they would rather not so they can keep the prices high and blame democrats.

The republicans are shameless when they LIE to you and say they have a plan to "drill".... all their bills are talking about leasing prime real estate in protected lands for "exploration"... which does not equate drilling and getting oil into our own market.

You're wrong and your facts are a lie. Brazil no longer uses oil for cars.

Because liberals don't want a solution; they love high gas prices. The confused minions also hate facts and fundamental economics.
