Had you heard this, and what do you think?
the American Motorcycle association reported that the Oakland California police department has decided to equip each of it's 45 harley davidson motorcycles with after market exhaust systems. Most of the officers complained that they do not "feel safe" on the quiet new bikes. So the new exhaust systems are now rated at 93 decibels, well above the mandatory stock 80 decibels (federal limit) and illegal under California state law as well.
Well, magz looks like your still acting like an immature little kid. Why can't you give a real answer instead of acting like a 10 year old. Made up? no, I told you where the info came from The american motorcycle association, you know, the national group that represents what you allegedly ride!
Good one Scott M, but it's not the cops breaking the law, it's the city of Oakland.
Ironic though isn't it?
Slipknot, Piggies? that went out in the 60's. As for helping or not, I can only say that I bought a new bike and took it out, it had VERY quiet pipes. I had a gal in a cage right beside me, with my front wheel even with her front door as she was slowly passing me on the right. She had her cell phone to her left ear, blocking her vision. She drifted right over into me. Almost the exact situation occurred after I replaced my stock slipons with louder ones. But this time I was passing her, she had no doubt at all that I was beside her and corrected back into her lane instantly. But "sound" isn't the only reason I change pipes on my bikes. Improved MPG, more HP, and less heat, as well as burning cleaner are just a few reasons why.

I agree with you about Magz. I could care less what someone else rides. The point is they ride. Yet Mags and his butt buddies can't see to understand that.
Anyhow, back to your initial comment. That would have to be the ultimate in hypocrisy. If I was ticketed for a loud bike in their neck of the woods I would take the info to court and use that as grounds to have it thrown out. If that didn't work I would try a citizens arrest on a cop on one of those bikes. :-)
As far as loud pipes the problem is that there are loud pipes then there are LOUD PIPES. My favorite bike of choice is the Honda XL/XRL series. With a stock pipe they are way to quiet. One of the first things I would do was put on a SuperTrapp exhaust system with the tune-able baffles. I could make it as loud or quiet that worked best. It always worked to help prevent problems with idiots coming over in to your lane like you mentioned. As one person mentioned you should always drive defensively but if there is anything you could do to minimize lane incursions then why not? But you can go too far. Drag pipes are way too loud, especially when riding in a residential neighborhood. Even though my pipes weren't very loud I would always baby it when I went through the neighborhood at night.
On another note why is it you have all these hot rod cars and modified pick-up trucks with little to no exhaust yet you never hear people gripe about them? It's always those noisey bikers fault.

Yes, in these days I heard the sound of sleigh bells being jingled on the Salvation Army kettle on the front to paintings. The sound of many individuals shopping up all form of meals for his or her Christmas feasts! And Christmas songs floating out of the shop stereo audio system. And such a lot of purchasers announcing or replying with Merry Christmases to me and mine! Merry Christmas Dizz pricey and all my splendiferous Contacts on Y!A !!! oxoxox :)

There are pipes that give a nice motor tone and do not offend people ten miles away and then there are exhaust pipes that are way to loud and that is what people are complaining about like straight pipes. I live two blocks from the area where all of the bikes hang out and any bike with a set of tuned pipes on it is not bad to hear but the ones with straight pipes are a stupid. You know what I am talking about and they are the ones that make it bad for all of us. They are to dumb to care to them noise is power.

I am all for it. I believe that louder pipes do cause people to turn around to see what the noise is.
