The nurse was talking rubbish. The egg only lives for between 6 and 24 hours, so the best chance is for the 3 or so days BEFORE ovulation, not after it. You also have a chance on the actual Ov date, but the next day is always too late. However, the 2 days before when you BD'd was great timing -- best of luck!

Hey there- you cant get pregnant a few days AFTER the egg has already released. The egg lives for 12-24 hours however sperm can live up to 2-3 days and up to 5 days max! So you BD'ing days before and on the actual "O" day was PERFECT! I would say you did it at the perfect time.. BD'ing every other day is always the best option though. Because than you know there is always sperm there and it gives you a "higher" chance so to speak to become pregnant.. Also try using PRESEED its a lube that doesnt kill the spermies... www.preseed.com and its not that expensive either.. It says to use the entire tube in one "session" I dont recommend it.. There is WAAAAAY to much lube in there that it felt like nothing when having sex and it was aweful- so we use just enough to make it comfortable and its suppose to help the sperm get up there faster and easier, I guess. I wish you and your wife the best of luck- she has a lucky husband who is this "into" her getting pregnant... =) How long have you been trying???! My DH and I have been ttc#1 for 16 months now and had chemical pregnancy last month and lost baby at 4 1/2 weeks =( but hoping this cycle works!!! I wish you all the luck to you and your wife and think you BD on the perfect days and just cont' to do so every other to every two days!!!

She can't get pregnant a few days after her egg was released because the egg is only there to be fertilezed 12 to 24 hours but the fact that you did it 2 days before, is great because sperm can live for a few days, and the day of is perfect. I would try to relax...I know it's easier said then done...lol, and try to have sex every other day from the time her period ends until the next period starts or you get the positive result....Good luck and baby dust to you and your wife.

Yes, your chances are pretty awesome! good job!
The sperm can live from 2 - 4 days in the womb. Ovulation is the time when the egg is released from the ovary and travels down the fallopian tubes to the Uterus. Provided that the Uterus lining is ready and the egg is healthy and attaches itself to the wall, the sperm can easily penetrate the waiting egg and cause conception to occur.
This magic is assured if everything else is conducive to fertilization such as:
1. Sperm is of good quantity, quality and motility.
2. The conditions in the woman's reproductive organs is beneficial to the survival of the sperm (no douches, correct pH balance, etc)
3. The Uterus, Ovaries, and fallopian tubes have good circulation.
4. Hormones are at the correct levels
5. Both partners are eating good, healthy diets
6. Stress-free environment in the house.
7. Eager, positive environment ( from your question, it looks like it! )
Spiritually, invite the baby through prayers, visualization and hope.
Hope this helps.
Mayavi :)
