It's a dangerous cult founded by L. Ron Hubbard (a Sci-fi writer) as an attempt to make money. They believe that Xenu, the Overlord of the Galactic Confederacy, took billions of aliens to earth and put them at the bottom of the volcano. They then dropped a bunch of H-Bombs on them, and then sucked up their souls. They brainwashed them in giant movie theaters that basically told them all about the culture we have now. When released, the souls, or thetans, clumped together and possessed us humans. The belief is that if you get rid of these thetans then you unlock powers of godly proportions.

Of course, this story isn't revealed to them until they've spent years in the cult and have forked over thousands upon thousands of dollars. They try to come off as a philosophy that tries to heal all problems through alternative methods (known as auditing). They are horribly intolerant of criticism, and are known to practice something called "fair game" (though it is not called that anymore). Basically, if someone is declared fair game, or a "suppressive person," Scientology members are encouraged and obliged to harass, bankrupt, injure, harangue, steal from, jail them, and even KILL them. There also responsible for the single largest infiltration of the US Government (Operation: Snow White).

They believe that any problem you have from a bad marriage to drug addiction can be cured by their tech. This includes getting a better job and coming out of a deep depression. They claim to fix it by using the same tech on everyone.

Then the higher levels are right out of there founding fathers (LR Hubbard) Sci FI books. In order to learn that stuff you must pay lot of money to go through the classes to tell you this crazy secret.

Never take one of there personality test. That is how they tell you what is wrong in your life. A 200 question personality test that everyone takes. Same test for every problem. It is a money making scam that will turn you into a penniless cult member

It is a scam designed to make you pay all of your money so you can 'feel better.'

If you give a person a fish you can feed him one time but if you teach him to fish you can feed him for a life time. That’s Scientology’s approach.

There are no suggestions involved in Auditing, all conclusion are done by you by your own intelligence. Auditors are bound the Auditor’s Code to never evaluate for the preclear (preclear is a person receiving Scientology processing). Never get in a relationship with the preclear. All information released during auditing is protected by law and not even the police can gain access to that information. Enforcing this code of conduct is the Scientology Ethics Officer and Scientology law. Any violation to the Auditors code is considered a high crime in Scientology and will result removal of any Auditing Certificates and/or expulsion from the church. If you hire a professional auditing team it will cost you the fees of the professional auditing team. How Scientology evolved?

Scientology evolved from Dianetics when it was discovered that man is a spiritual being. Scientology differs from Dianetics in that Dianetics deals with the mind and the rehabilitation of mental image pictures and Scientology deals with the rehabilitation of the human spirit itself.

Cult status?

All great religions have been misunderstood, persecuted and attacked. Jesus was sentenced to death by a lynching crowd; his only crime: to teach Love and forgiveness. Christians were KILLED for centuries for their beliefs. It was believed that Christians performed cannibalistic rituals and that they were dangerous (didn’t they ate and drink the body of Jesus?).

Scientology is a worldwide religion that claims 10 millions of members. And for a church that is barely 40 years old this is great. Scientology is not a small sect based in a small town in Texas isolated from the rest of the world.
